That was pretty good, wasn't it? Even if the story or whatever in this movie is mediocre, at least we will have amazing imagery like the Death Star from the planets atmosphere and what I can only assume to be a test run on the superlaser.

Looks like it'll be good to me. We get a bit more of the story and character motivations. And also some really cool imagery. Looking forward to Vader's scenes, too.

This should be out on my mom's birthday, so I think I'll take her and dad to see it.

Uggh these Rebellion characters look so BORING.

I am rooting for the Empire at this point, they have the coolest weapons, the coolest armor, and coolest vehicles and cooler charcaters, I mean they Darth Vader in this movie (and it hurts me to say that because I like the X-Wing over any Tie-Fighters.)

Also wasn't it the Geonosians that came up with the designs for the Death Star? Not this Mads Mikkelsen looking guy that is the father of that Rey looking girl?

I think her dad came up specifically with the superlaser, as that seems to be what the movie will focus on.

If they want to call do-over on the bullshit from the Prequels, I say let them.

But the recent Darth Vader comics still acknowledges the prequals, the now current canon Darth Vader is still that same Anakin Skywalker?

I don't recall them saying they made the designs, just that they had them as part of their database. It's possible that the guy already made the plans at that point (though I doubt it, given how old I'm guessing she's meant to be). But, it's possible that they made the basic design, but he's the guy who is actually going to make it work. They say he is "key" to the production of a new weapon, they didn't say he was the creator of it. It very well could be that they had the design, but couldn't figure out how to handle the power flows and whatnot, but he's the guy who came in and said "do X, Y, and Z, and it will work." Thus allowing them to move forward with the production.

A bit too spoiler-y for my tastes, but still...

SPACE BATTLES! HONEST-TO-GOD SPACE BATTLES!

And is that a KOTOR-inspired Hammerhead cruiser I see in the background at 1:58? I know they've appeared in Rebels before, but this'll be the first time we've seen them on the silver screen.

I can't say I'm all that excited for Vader. It feels like he's just there to get butts in theater seats. I hope they keep his involvement to a minimum. Also, it seems a bit too convenient that the protagonist's father is apparently involved (albeit reluctantly) with the macguffin they're trying to find.

Still, I'm probably more psyched for this than I was for TFA. Finally, a Star Wars movie that doesn't revolve around Jedi or the Skywalkers and focuses on everyday people instead.

I just want him to loom menacingly over the protagonist's efforts, and for him to utterly demolish at least one other person in a swordfight. He doesn't even have to say anything.

Actually, I would like him to say something. I'd like him to say "The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force choke."

And then maybe, "This Death Star thing is kind of a terrible idea, logistically speaking. I mean, we already have fleets."

I actually like it. It raises this neat question of moral ambiguity over her father's culpability in the future destruction of Alderaan. A Werner von Braun scenario.

Also, ever since the teaser trailer I've held onto a vain hope that this film will actually end with Whatsherface defecting to the Empire as a last-act twist, and her father's safety seems like a suitable motivation. Maybe the Rebels want him assassinated and she turns on them at the last second. (I know, I know, it'll never happen in a Disney movie.)

I am nowhere near a Star Wars fan but you know what, that peaked my interest very much. I like a good story. I like a good story told well.

Go Picture!

Well dealing with family problems is kind of a root part of the Star Wars saga, so having her dad as an Imperial collaborator makes sense to me, and totally fits the Star Wars tradition for storytelling. As to her possible Face/Heel turn, I doubt it. What I suspect will happen, and this is just a personal theory based on typical story structure, is that while he does help them build the thing, he specifically builds in the weakpoint in the system. In the hopes that he can get the plans out to someone, who can exploit the weakness and take down the Death Star. Thus leading to New Hope, and the exhaust port that Luke uses.

Sidenote: Oh I'm so happy they got that actor to play her father! I loved him in Valhalla, and find him to be a wonderfully delightful presence on screen.

OT: Trailer looks good, on par with what I expect from Disney and the Star Wars franchise. But trailers can lie, so we'll see if it plays out to actually be good.

Things I liked:

1) Ground combat. That was sorely missing from The Force Awakens. Yeah, we had Finn, Han, and Chewie blowing Stormtroopers away, but since they all have plot armor, it doesn't have the same feel. I wanted to see something like what we saw at the start of TFA with the Stormtroopers, only I wanted to see the Rebels fighting back.

2) That shot of Scarif or whatever the planet is called. After all the dull colors, suddenly seeing this lush green and bright blue planet is eye popping. I love it.

3) Oh snap, are we going to get space combat this time? Please say yes. And please be like Return of the Jedi, where random, no-name Rebels make just as much impact as the heroes.

4) The action overall. This looks like it's going to be a good thrill ride once it gets all the pieces in place.

Things I didn't like:

1) Why did you show Vader? We all knew he was going to be in the movie. He had to be. But they should have saved his reveal for the actual movie. They should have kept his appearances to subtle hints and back-of-the-helmet shots. Keep that mystery air around him until he actually shows up in the movie.

2) Build off of that, Vader seemed to be walking too fast in that scene, like he was in a hurry or something. Vader doesn't move like that. He takes long, menacing strides, not "Sorry I'm late for the meeting, Director," quick strides.

Uh... In Star Wars, they simply examined the blueprint to find the weak point. It took them like five minutes. Now they need the architect?
Huh? The whole crux of the movie was that Leigha had stolen the plans and hidden them on R2D2. Presumably these are the dudes that stole them and gave them to her.

Return of the Jedi mentioned spies getting them the information they needed.

Maybe now we'll figure out what the fuck a bothan is. My only complaint is that their sacrifice feels cheapened by the fact that we've had three of the bloody things by now.

The dialogue still seems off, unnatural, forced, bad.

But that said, I will still watch it because I enjoy Star Wars.

I am amazed you managed to misspell Leia that badly.

Not trying to be mean, it's just...G and H are right in the middle of the keyboard! How do your fingers slip that badly in between I and A?

Oh, never mind. I wish I didn't know what a Bothan was now.

Considering you find Snyder dc movies interesting, that's quite an insult. I haven't watched the trailer yet but I'm fully expecting a minutes worth of a static shot of a piece of paper
Hey! I found the Snyderverse full of interesting characters. Interesting characters doing very stupid things for stupid reasons, but interesting nonetheless.

Seriously, MoS!Zod was probably the best and most nuanced incarnation of the character. Other versions portrayed him as a jingoistic xenophobe or simply a power-hungry maniac. Man of Steel had the interesting (and unexplored) implication that his demeanour was a result of Kryptonian genetic engineering; that, in a society where people are built from the genes up to fulfill a specific purpose, a soldier will be unable to think of any solution to a particular problem that does not involve violence.

Plus, Michael Shannon.
