It all goes here

personally my issues are:

.Bunkers look really really ugly
.Immortal cant attack air?(this thing supposed to replace the dragoon? lolwut)
.Terrans have 3 anti ground area attack units and 1 anti air
.Refinery(kill yourself Blizzard, its horrible looking)
.NO FUCKING ZERG INFO OTHER THAN WHAT LITTLE YOU CAN SCROUNGE FROM THE INTERNET(Official anyway)
.Voice Actors and unit avatars are less than stellar
.more than 2 resources, just no, NO.

also, keep in mind, all the origional units and even concept ones will be featured in the map editor(which is promised to be outstanding, overshadowing even WC3's beast of an editor)

I have real mixed feelings on the game, from what I've seen so far.

On one level, I'm optimistic. I was never a huge Starcraft fan (I was in the Total Annihilation bot) but the game itself was fairly good quality. Blizzard did wonderful art, great balance for three very different races, and a very interesting story to boot. I want to see the story continued, to know where things go. The graphics for the sequel, while not all that impressive, do show the hallmark Blizzard love, some of the animations look just plain gorgeous.

But, on the other hand, some things trouble me. Starcraft came out ten years ago, looking at the sequel, I'm struck by just how little has changed, not with the game, but with the genre as a whole. The RTS genre really is in a sad state in many ways, so many games really haven't deviated much at all from where they were a decade ago, and although this is not the fault of Starcraft, it highlights it. In it's day, Starcraft was great for so many things, but it's been cloned and refined so many times that ultimately a sequel that goes down the same road might not have much to offer.

Time will tell, though. And the concept art is still wonderful to look at on the Starcraft II webside.

In my opinion, which means precious little, I know, SC2 is going to be the pinnacle of the RTS genre.

Now, I am more than a touch biased here, since I grew up on Warcraft 2 and the first Starcraft, so of course I'm going to claim the new Starcraft as a great game, but I really feel that it is just going to be better than anything else the genre can put out any more. As GrowlersAtSea above me pointed out, the RTS genre hasn't changed much over the years. It's getting old, really really REALLY damned old. One of the greatest of all RTS games (and don't take my word for it, just ask most major game reviewers) is the original Starcraft (which revolutionized the genre, and defines RTS to this day), so why shouldn't it's successor be similarly the pinnacle of what an RTS is capable of?

Surely, Blizzard could drop the ball and totally bomb it, and as a fan of the original, I'm already a bit pissed about some unit changes and the like, but still, it doesn't mean it won't be a shining example of its genre (since Blizzard very rarely bombs with games).

Just my .02.

-They're not that bad, nicer than the originals I think. It's really an aesthetic thing.
-Yeah... that makes me sad. Immortals make Dragooons cry. :'(
-That isn't really relevant. So they are good at killing ground, congrats. They always have been, it's part of their whole "base defenses are good" thing.
-I don't mind the Refinery much. In fact I rather like it. Once again, aesthetics my friend.
-Not a big deal. They'll release more at some point.
-Bah, I don't care about the voice actors. They fail to be important. Gameplay is FAR more important IMO.
-Where did you see this again? Last I saw, it's still only two resources... >_<

Your points seem to focus on two things: personal dislike of aesthetics (ie. stuff that doesn't matter or stuff that doesn't really impact the game in any meaningful way) and Blizzard not releasing info quickly enough (given... that's annoying). Perhaps you should settle down a touch and think about the game from a gameplay stand-point? Also, as a reminder, nothing they've shown us is final. EVERYTHING can change overnight. ;)

Oh, and first post yay! :D (Had to include this, just cause)

I think the 3rd resource he was referring to is the yellow minerals. I haven't heard much about or even seen them. I've only heard that they're the same as blue minerals, only worth more.

I'm liking the Phoenix and its new Overload ability. Hopefully it won't be like the Scout, which was practically useless against ground units and overly expensive.

I can't wait for Starcraft 2!!!!! I need a demo or beta or something! But I saw a release date on it for October this year :( SO hopefully a demo will be out soon. It's gonna be the best RTS game in awhile!

Personally, I think the Immortal can go die. I like my seige tanks and now we got this new bugger with strong "smart" shields to protect itself against tank blasts but not petty marine shots? I just think that's weird.

I was also sad to see the Firebat has been taken out from the main game... At least it'll be in the map editor though.

I wouldn't ***** about the refinery too much though... I think it looks all right. But the game isn't final so they could change it. Blizzard got so much feedback on how ugly the seige tank was that Blizzard overhauled it and changed it.

There are yellow resources which are just higher yield spots... so it's now more strategic gameplay... get the higher yield spot but be found easier... or take the safer regular yield spot but get less money... Same goes for the vespene gas too. There are no "new" resources.

I think they have some new things for the Zerg and are keeping everyone in suspense. It pisses me off too that they haven't released .. but all you can do is wait.

The BEST thing I've liked so far is how the supply depots can go into the ground to make way for untis. Great feature!!!

Lastly, I'm literally in love with the Thor unit for Terran. It's teh awesome!!!!!!!!!!1!!!1

im really skeptical bout starcraft 2 simply cause alot of remakes nowdays kinda suck. i played Perfect Dark for the xbox 360 and my god they butchered the game beyond belief.
and one thing i noticed bout starcraft 2 is everything looks CARTOONY like world of warcraft cartoony.

I have a feeling I won't care about Starcraft 2. I think it's going to be Starcraft with prettier graphics and maybe a commander abilities system... I don't play Starcraft obsessively anymore for a reason; the gameplay got boring and the online play became too elitist which is really just a function of it being popular for so long. Hell, I have trouble focusing on Dawn of War after playing Company of Heroes for a while because it feels so stupid to see two groups of enemies just blasting away at each other while standing way out in the open...

From all the gameplay videos I've seen so far I can tell that Starcraft still has the same cartoony sense of scale, the same single-unit production style, the same base building method, the same one dimensional units with minimal necessary micro, and the battles will probably be exactly the same. Point capturing is what makes AI's more difficult and what made the CoH campaign so much more interesting. The single resource in DoW and having to fight over strategic points make skirmishes far more interesting because there is constant warfare, and heroes were about the only thing that distinguished Warcraft 3 from it's predecessor.

I may buy it but probably not because first I'd have to upgrade my computer and I'm simply unwilling to spend money on something I'm 75% sure will be a disappointment.

Im lookinf forward to SC2, but as it stands ny comp cant run it. Bah. Im trying to keep away from as much hype and previews as possible, I'd much rather just play it and not have any expectations brought on by all the info out there. (to that end I glazed over most previous posts concerning content of the game)
But I do hope it is good. I doubt it will surpass the original, but if it bombs, I'd advise people to mover away from the cities, especially where Blizzard (Activision) is, because the Koreans WILL be coming for blood.

You should check out Savage: The Battle for Newerth. Both that and it's sequal are now freeware games and definatly worth checking out. It combines RTS gameplay for one player on each team (commander) and third/first person combat for the rest (units). The learning curve is steep but the fun is limitless.

I liked the original Starcraft, and this one actually looks like a worthy enough sequel. But old Starcraft fans may be a little bit confused with all the new stuff (That is, if you're an old Starcraft fan and you're going in to it and you're saying to yourself "It's just going to be like the old one" over and over again). Thing is, it will probably be exactly the same. It'll just probably turn into a remake.
