[HEADING=1]Starcraft[/HEADING]
[HEADING=2]The Ghost Program[/HEADING]

"Somebody call for an exterminator?"

"Commander Tian. We've received a new shipment of possible trainees for the Program."

The hulking, bearded man kept his back to his thinner subordinate, gazing into the star-pricked depths beyond the viewing screen. "And you bring this news to me why, Lieutenant?" The Commander grunted. "We have hundreds of possible trainees." Disdain smeared the last bit; they had not been very successful in finding anything more than moderately able children.

The lieutenant hesitated. "Sir... these are different."

"Different... how?" Commander Tian turned to face the lieutenant, his arms behind his back. He looked expectantly as the man squirmed under his eyes.

The lieutenant handed Tian a datapad. "Sir. Their PA scores are-"

"I want them in that Academy. Now, Lieutenant."

Combat. The Art of War. Riddled with death, fear, and uncertainty. Nothing strikes fear into the heart of a foe quite like an unseen foe, striking from afar, disabling machinery and murdering men before they realize they have passed. Nothing like a Ghost.

For those interested, you will be playing as a squad of ultra-talented children entering into the Ghost Academy in the Terran Dominion, shortly after Kerrigan's retreat into Unknown Space (Just after the events of Starcraft: Brood War). You will be put through grueling exercise, horrific tests of will, and bloody feats of strength. Through it all, you will craft a unique Ghost who will contribute to the squad in his or her own way.

That is, if you survive.

Game Rules

Before I go any further, I have to give props to [user]Tsurugi[/user]; the setting of this game is almost directly ripped from his RP of the same name. However, it died, due to uninterested players, despite its many merits. I am here to take his game and master it, turn it into a game that I think will be both a unique experience and a memorable one.

The game will be played thusly; In what will be known as a "Mission Post" (outlined in the spoiler box below this paragraph), I will give a mission to you. You are tasked with writing a short story (No length limit; whatever you feel is sufficient) wherein you and whatever characters I say are with you complete the mission.

[HEADING=3]Mission Post #0[/HEADING]

Characters available: Player Character, two other Player Character Squadmates.

Mission: Sneak into Commander Tian's cookie jar.

Reward: +1 to Tastiness

Description: The Commander asked for it, making you fail that test by distracting you. You'll get him back though, won't you? Bribe the Marines, sneak through the ducts, whatever happens, you'll get that bastard back; by stealing his sweets.

Now. The observant among you will realize a little thing in that spoiler box labeled "Reward"

Let me explain. I will personally be reading and judging the post made by each character. I will select one poster as the Victor. The victor will receive a bonus, decided by me, to be used at his or her discretion. The bonuses range from special equipment for your character (Such as flash grenades, enhanced Lockdown abilities) to Mission Skips (Which allow you to skip a single mission; sort of like a get out of jail free card).

Guidelines for Entries

It's rather simple, really. Grammar and spelling are vital. Make it interesting. Long enough to do what needs to be done, but not so long as to be boring.

Now, onto the first step. Character Generation. But first, a bit of background on the Ghost Program.

The Ghost Program is a program for the education of Terrans to become the feared Ghost units. All children in the Terran Dominion are given a Psi Aptitude (PA) test within twelve months of birth. If they are deemed to be of the proper power, they're taken by the Dominion to one of a few Ghost Academies scattered throughout the Dominion. However, fringe-worlders are sometimes able to escape detection for several years, although never for more than ten years.

Students of the Ghost Program are subjected to harsh training regiments to indoctrinate them to the will of the Dominion and train them to fully utilize their Psionic and physical abilities. After graduating, if they get that far, they are regarded as full Ghosts and are deployed into the field.

More information can be found here [http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Ghost_Program].

Name:

Sex:

Age: (At first, must be between the ages of 7-10)

Psi Aptitude: (As all characters will be average to far higher than average in their Psionic abilities, please number this from 1-5: 1 being average Ghost Psi, 5 being just below Kerrigan's strength (Pre-Corruption). Remember; it might be more interesting to read about a character that has to think rather than just Psi his way through every mission)

Physical Description:

Personality: (Just give me a quick rundown on any quirks he/she might have)

Background: (Not too much, just give me a little on how they came to join the Ghost Program)

Note: Once again, a big HOORAH to Tsurugi for coming up with such a magnificent RP idea.

Nice idea. However I know next to nothing about Starcraft (played the game ages ago). Could you post a little more background please (yes I did click the link but that's just about the ghosts, not really the universe). Also some examples of psi powers and their limits/abilities would be good (this, again, may be my ignorance of the background).
Oh yes, HOORAH for Tsurugi!
Edit: I suppose I'd better reserve a spot too (if there's problems with numbers this came after mimi). Character sheet incoming.

Name: Karhill Infierna

Sex: Male

Age: 10

Psi Aptitude:3

Physical Description: He is 4'3" at age 10, and has black fine hair. He carries a large burn on the side of his face from parental abuse at age 2 going from lower jaw to cheekbone, and even extending close to the mouth, the burn is on the right side of his face, facing him!

Personality: He loves cherry coppler, hate candied apples, and enjoys torturing small animals in his free time, phsyciatrists say its a personality defect that he gained when his parents beat each other and him. They hope this defect is cleared when memory loss occurs at the end of training, however they feel the scar runs to deep in his phychie to erase with a quick mind wipe.

Background: He was found in the slums of Tarsonis city when his father abandoned him on the street corner (age 5), and later was brought to the police station where they threw him in the orphanage. At Age 7, the local wrangler came to search the slums for other wranglers and potiental ghosts he could use to earn that Christmas bonus and pay off the mob bosses in Tarsonis for protection. He of course found Karhill and turned him over to the Terran Dominion, who in turn shoved him in the ghost acedemy.

Name: Samantha or Sam

Sex: Female

Age: 8

Psi Aptitude: 2

Physical Description: Sam is around 42 inches tall and weighs about 40 pounds and is severely underweight and short for her age. She has straight blond hair and bright blue eyes. She has two knife cut scars on both her arms.

Personality: Sam lives in fear, do to emotional trauma from the things her father did to her. Sam is almost always sad and upset. She tries to see the bright side of every situation, but most of the time she can't.

Background: Sam's mother died giving birth to her, and her father was left to raise her. Everything went fine for Sam until she was a little over 7. Her father had been dumped again, by another woman and slowly started to go insane. He came home one night and sexually abused and raped Sam. He started doing this at least once a week. Sam would try her hardest to resist and refuse, but it was never any use. Her father even tried to make her cooperate, and wouldn't feed her if she didn't participate and help him enjoy himself. He locked the house up completely, butterfly locking doors high enough for Sam to not reach them, ext. After about a year of this, Sam just couldn't take anymore, Physically or Emotionally. Watching TV one day, she was flipping around the channels and found a soap opera on and two of the characters were discussing suicide, and slitting your wrists. That night Sam crawled downstairs into the kitchen, grabbed the biggest knife she could, and tried to slit both her wrists. Crying from the pain, she awoke her father on accident who beat her and applied pressure to the wound and fixed it up.

A few weeks later, a little after her 8th birthday, is when the accident happened. During her fathers "activities" one night, Sam channeled all of this energy that had been building up inside of her, and shot it into his body. He flew backwards, into a window, and plummeted down two stories. Calling 911 for himself, the doctors looked at Sam and all her bruises and scars. They took her away from him and brought her into their care for a while. After hearing the fathers story of her mentally pushing him out of a window, test were immediately ran that confirmed this, and she was thrown into the Ghost program. The idea sounded like heaven for Sam. She didn't have to be around him and could socialize with other kids. It wasn't.

There we go, my character sheet is up. I found the starcraft lore to be very entertaining as i researched it. So much so that i have purchased the game. You should get some money from Blizz

Issue with your background.
So fix up that little issue and you're in. Perhaps have him be a fringe-worlder?
Fixed.
Just a quick question. How long do we have to write a story once you have posted the mission? Or do we wait till everyone has posted?
Name: Trent Blisk

Sex: Male

Age: 10

Psi Aptitude: 3

Physical Description: Shaggy, blonde hair and blue eyes. Above average height for an 10 year old, has well developed muscles for his age.

Personality: Usually easy going, but takes his training extremely seriously. Very curious to see how he can expand his Psi powers,

Background: Born a military father, and housewife mother, Trent was raised in a fairly safe enviroment. His parents managed to avoid him taking the PAT by moving to a fringe world. His parents stopped him practising his Psi powers, so he wouldnt be taken away. instead they had him practice hand to hand combat, as well as arms training, as his father knew how draining ghost training was. However, Trent carried on honing his Psi powers in secret, and wanting to learn more about Psi, he deliberately caught the attention of army officals with his public displays, so at the age of 10 he was finally brought into the ghost program.

Issue with your background. The Psi Aptitude test isn't really a test so much as a measure of what a person is capable of. One's PA cannot change except through -extensive- psychological trauma or high-tech enhancements. And the latter carries a very high rate of danger.

So fix up that little issue and you're in. Perhaps have him be a fringe-worlder?

Also, I have talked with Tsurugi, and he has given us his blessing. So huzzah and such.

Looks good. If you'll have me, I'll probably need the same PM as lostclause - I found Starcraft a ***** to get into, being RTS-ally challenged, so I know pretty much nothing of the lore.

Name: Darcy Trinh

Sex: Male

Age: 7

Psi Aptitude: 2

Physical Description: Darcy is a bit taller than usual for his age, but is not intimidating in any way. He has short brown hair, and is no more muscular than any child of his age. All up, Darcy is unremarkable in every way physically.

Personality: Darcy is introverted, preferring to dwell in his own mind than get a glimpse into those of others. He is brilliant intellectually, but not in the conventional way. Darcy does not think like a normal person in many situations.

Background: Throughout his education, Darcy was assumed to be stupid, and so was usually ignored by teachers. This was because his intellect, while substantial, was unable to be confirmed through tests. Darcy thinks unconventionally and in physical terms, and so is able to come up with off-the-wall, so-crazy-it-might-work answers to problems. He was patronised, babied, throughout school, and had to put up with it because 'the teachers know best.' This made Darcy disillusioned with school and life in general, and so he tended to give up and be what everyone assumed him to be.

Darcy started to show Psi aptitude in times of stress such as sports games, altercations with other students and the like. Rather than externally showing anything, he internalised the phenomenon, boosting his bran activity. Everything seemed to move slower, and he could think faster. This allowed Darcy to think of solutions, consequences and possibilities in depth in a matter of milliseconds. Unfortunately, this aptitude was not reflected in his academic scores, and Darcy remained at the bottom of his class.

Darcy's break came when a high-ranking member of the Terran military, a 'wrangler', came to give a speech at his school. He recognised the potential within Darcy, which still remained out of the sight of those that had known him his whole life. Darcy happily accepted the opportunity to be known for what he could actually do, and so was introduced to the Ghost Program.

Emu the idea sounds sexy as; love how you want to take on the missions. Let me see if I can come up with a character I am happy with if so I'm in. If you haven't heard back from me by the end of the weekend then you may just wanna strike me out.

Not my best work but it will do.
Name: Jack "nimble"
Sex: Male

Age: 7

Psi Aptitude: 1

Physical Description: Short in stature, long in limbs. Brown hair, piercing hazel eyes.
Personality: Jack learnt from a very early age that he was different form other kids. AT first it was just subtle things; like an ability to pick up on skills faster, or a hyper developed emotional response to others around him.
Jack also learnt that being different to others meant that you had to be careful what you said or what you did as people tended to look down on that which was different.
What Jack never understood (not until he was administered into his ghost training facility) Was that his heightened reactions and awareness to humans came from his over developed -for an average human at least- psionic powers. Jack is above all an incredibly adept at telepathy; his high level of interaction with other humans brains has made him quite social towards other humans and there problems and woes, while simultaneously being incredibly protective of his own thoughts and feelings.

Background: Jack would have loved to enjoy a life of climbing up quarry faces and trees. He would have loved it but unfortunately he was blessed with psionic powers. Not exactly potent psionic powers but trace enough elements to allow him to come under the scrutiny of the Terran Dominion.
He was detected ironically enough by another ghost who felt the pressure of Jack's wandering subconscious mind against his own and immediately reported him to the proper authorities.
Jack is good at telepathy but apart from his over developed telepathy most of his other psychic powers are quite lacking. The academy hopes that the rest of his powers are just slow to bloom and that he will soon be another child ghost prodigy.

Name: Johnathan Craid.

Sex: Male.

Age: 8

Psi Aptitude: 3

Physical Description:

Personality: Jonathan has shown great insight and problem-solving abilities in the tests we have run thus far. However, there is a potential issue: the boy is an introvert, and has a hard time forming/breaking ties to other people. This means that switching him between groups, or sending him on solo missions, would likely cause him to perform poorly. He also hard a hard time speaking with other people due to this reluctance to trust others, and as such has learned sign language as a way to communicate without speaking. Luckily he seems to have grown out of this somewhat before we got him, but he sometimes abbreviates words or sentences by replacing them with gestures.

Background: Craid formerly lived on the Fringe colony of Tartarus IV, working with his father (Dan Craid), who one of the few survivors of the initial conflicts with the Zerg. His father's profession was that of a pilot: he flew cargo transports. John was brought along with him on these trips, though it is unknown if he picked up any useful skills during them. About a month after his eigth birthday, John complained to his father that his head was hurting, and that he had been "hearing strange things" lately. His father took him to see a doctor, who notified us of a potential Ghost candidate.

Thanks, looking forward to it.
Name: Riccachos (Rick)
Age: 8
Gender: Male
Physical description: Moderate size, slightly stocky. Hispanic descent. His black hair is close cropped (although becomes long and unkept when he is despondent)
Psi aptitude: 1
Background/personality: With his damper still functioning, Rick can barely remember his own name and very little of his past before coming into the program. Lacking a past Rick also lacks ambition with no idea of what he wanted out of life and if he ever accomplished those goals. As a result he becomes extremely focussed when on a mission, enjoying the luxury of a clear, obtainable goal, regardless of the reason he was sent on it. Hence, Rick is an unquestioning solider. The one thing that might distract him is a hint of his past as he only knows meaningless names and near incoherent pictures. When not on a mission he is despondent and aimless, often forgetting basics such as eating and he flouts the rules with no cares for the punishments.
Having a poor psyhic ability, Rick usually depends on stealth to accomplish his tasks and has no qualms as to the morality of his goals.
If I've made any mistakes don't hesitate to tell me and I'll correct them (and thanks for any help).

Hmm, I originally had a plan to justify her max psi powers, but if you think it's more of a problem than a blessing than I can have it down a notch.

Also, can you send me the same pm you're sending him? Out of simply curiosity.
You can have her Psi be whatever you like; it was just a tip. You'll have to keep your super-Psi powers interesting, should you hope to win rewards.

And to whoever asked it, I was considering putting the deadline at ten days after the Mission is posted. Of course, I'm open to suggestions.

im not sure. isn't ten days a bit long? unless you put out several at once. i would suggest 7 days at most, but obviously it's your RP, so this is purely a suggestion.
