You ever watched the series, the Roughnecks Chronicle? That was good.

I like both the book and the movie! It's a good day to die is one of my favorite songs!
Fuck yeah!! I too like both and I think they have more in common than people say, the book does a good job of explaining it's world with the attitude of "it may not be a perfect system but it's worked so far."
Makes me wonder if requiring some kind of public service for our politicians would be a good thing

I second Hawki. Is there any specific direction you want this thread to go? What people liked? What people disliked? Comparing the movie with the book? Other books/movies recommendations? Discussing the undertones and details in the movie that made it a satire of a pro-war movie?

I love the propaganda in that movie. It's so hilarious.

I did. Once back in the day, once a few years ago in a rewatch.

It's fairly decent - it lacks the social analysis of the novel or the social sattire of the film, but as a series that's content with being a squad-based action series, it does its job. It at least mentions the cost of war at times, even if Alpha Team comes off scott free most of the time. I personally liked the Pluto and Klendathu arcs the most. Characters aren't the deepest, but they're at least all given their own personality traits.

Though I have to ask:

-How the heck does Rico make it to lieutenant, while Gossard and Doc begin the series as corporals, and end as corporals?

-How does the queen bug on Earth turn the tables so quickly? What, SICON can defeat the bugs on their own turf on Klendathu, but on Earth, one lone queen is enough to spawn an army that practically overruns the entire planet?

So, yeah. Not the greatest, but enjoyable enough.

I saw Starship Troopers in the theater back in '97 with my dad. I was nine at the time, and my dad definitely got some dirty looks from people for taking me, but I absolutely loved it.

I ended up reading the actual book later that year, buying all the movie tie-in comic books, I collected the trading cards, I watched the cartoon every day before school, I had a bunch of the action figures, I played the hell out of "Starship Troopers: Terran Ascendancy" on my first PC, I've got all of the sequels, and I actually have a couple of the rubber stunt prop Morita assault rifles (one of the carbine variant, and one of the full-size variant with the underbarrel shotgun).

If you're looking for a modern game with a bit of a Starship Troopers vibe to it, I've been playing "Helldivers" lately with a couple friends. It's definitely got a little bit of Starship Troopers in its blood.

I'd love to see the Anime that got made into the 80's, but no-one ever licensed it. its a real shame, as its suit designs were beautiful, and really felt like they'd stepped out of the book.

That's cool OP.

Care to elaborate, explain why do you like them?

Well, they kept asking whether you'd like to know more, so it's good to know that Johnny does at least...
