Starwars: Doesn't Kylo Ren look a lot like Dark Revan?

I don't know if this topic has been done before here, but it's been on my mind a bit.
Recently the star wars cannon has been clarified, that is everything release after a certain date is cannon and most of what isn't is not.

Except Bioware Games are in the unique position of 1, all being connected story wise, and 2, having story content released both before and after said date.

and now we get a movie villain who is basically wearing the Darth Revan fashion for a new season.
that and Ren's famous trailer line is about the awakening of both the dark-side and the light. Likewise Revan was basically remembered as someone who was both Jedi and Sith and mastered both side of the force.

The answer is probably 'No, this is all a coincidence'. After all, every sith wears that damn robe.

But I'd still like to hear some opinions on the matter

*Canon, Mr. President.

It's quite possible at least a few people on the production staff had played KOTOR, and there might be some influence on Kylo's costume design stemming from that. Or, as you say, it could just be that all Sith wear creepy masks and long black robes and sooner or later there's going to be some overlap.

I'd like to think that it's because Kylo Ren is a Sith fan and took his likness from previous Sith through history, but since they do no include KoTOR in canon I doubt that will happen, be nice, but I doubt it.

They don't really look alike, except for 1) having a face mask and 2) having hoods, both of which are so absurdly common in both the EU and current canon that you could say half of the universe looks exactly the same.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is not on the canon list, and thus belongs in the 'Star Wars Legends' continuity. The only stuff that will be canon from this point are stories and products that are guided and endorsed by Disney's Star Wars Story Group, which The Old Republic is not.

A surprising amount of Bioware's Star Wars work actually is canon in the broad strokes, as the Old Republic and the Sith/Jedi war has been canonized in both the movies and, more expansively, The Clone Wars series. However, unless mentioned in those sources, it's not canon. I believe that includes Revan.

To re-iterate:

1. Neither KOTOR or The Old Republic are canon, though they have inspired canon works.
2. The visual similarities between Revan and Ren are typical of the Star Wars universe as a whole. Using them to suggest a connection is as faulty as assuming two random people in real life are related because both of them wear white shoes.
3. Shouldn't this be in the Off-Topic section?
