As the title suggests, it seems that all stealth games are just...gone and no-one intends to resurrect them. I'm talking about games like thief, splinter cell and velvet assassin but there seem to be no more stealth games out there. Anyone have any stealth games that you have really enjoyed that I have not mentioned?

I thought there was a new Theif game coming out. The new Deus Ex will allow you to use stealth to get through various situations. Metal Gear Solid 4 on higher difficulties requires stealth.

Well, stealth games have never been that gang-busters that there would be a steady-stream of them coming out. But nonetheless, Thief 4 is in the making, the Hitman series will probably continue and Assasin's Creed is still going.

Indeed you are correct, about a new Thief game: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thief_4#Thief_4 . Also, there's a new Splinter Cell coming up as well: http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/075/075423.html . So I wouldn't say it's dead, the titles just aren't getting released all that quickly.

cant wait for new hitman... probably the only decent stealth series left. im iffy about thief sequels, and any game that only has stealth as an option instead of being built around it really isnt a stealth 'game'. conviction was GoW with a few insanely easy stealth sections, so i dont care for what that series releases next.

From the games I have played, umm...

VtM: Bloodlines, Fallout 3 & NV, as well as Oblivion are poor substitutes for a stealth game, but they are an enjoyable enough option to scratch my stealth itch. Splinter Cell and Hitman are alright, but the former is too linear and the latter is not sneaky enough for my tastes. Also, both have fairly uninteresting settings, stories, and characters. Crysis stealth gameplay was way too easy. STALKER... I can't really remember if that had stealth, which can't be a good thing. Amnesia was fun, but I enjoy being the predator more than the prey. Deus Ex is fun enough played as a stealth game, but suffers from stupid AI syndrome. Arkham Asylum had fun stealth sections, but they were only sections.

I'm hopeful for the upcoming Thief and Deus Ex titles but nothing out there has mastered the stealth gameplay mechanic quite like the original two thief games did, and I doubt they will either.

The Metal Gear series? Even MGS2 is pretty good, although the characters get annoying (read: Raiden is a whiny *****). I would say that MGS4 is my favourite, but if you're not a big fan already than a lot of the story is gibberish.

Skyrim has apparently been polished up from the crude stealth in it's predecessor, Oblivion. Add that to a new engine fit for 2011 = saucy.

Though, you'd have to like Viking-esque fantasy.
Crude? CRUDE?!

... Oblivions only shining point for me where the two stealth focused guild missions. Which had been, fittingly, fittingly designed by an original man from the Thief series development team.

Anyway.

Stealth games aren't more dead (deader?) than they were before. They have less of an audience than your average shooter or action RGP and titles in this particular genre will always be difficult to find.

A shame, says this Taffer.

Crysis and Metro 2033 I consider to be stealth games in many respects.

I'd like to see you do well at Crysis (even on the easiest difficulty) just running and gunning like you would in Halo or Call of Duty. Using Cloak, taking out enemies from long distances, and just not making your presence known to the enemy is crucial to success. Having a mod to put a suppressor on the DSG-1 sniper rifle doesn't hurt, either.

Metro 2033 is essentially built around being sneaky, not so much on the walking tank (i.e. under Hardcore) difficulties, but once you hit Ranger difficulty, it becomes 100% vital to be the sneakiest ************ in the Metro.
Crysis 2, agreed. Ive done it before on a "no stealth" playthough and it sucks but its viable with lots and lots of armor mode and target tagging. Nano-recharge is just a game breaker along with armor mode. "use armor: armor breaks: use health while energy recharges: Use armor : regen health as armor is being used: repeat"
As a Did you know. You can fire your pistol while cloaked and stay cloaked, great for taking out the cell in 1 hit without breaking cloak.

AS for metro i actually raged because stealth felt so broken. Too many times i threw a knife into a soldiers face and he lived got up and everyone in 12 counties was on my butt even though i was in green stealth. Either its broken or its just CRAZY hard. I couldnt find any stealthy 1 hit kill the shank on the throwing knife wouldnt kill neither. I tried to shank that one guy on the first stealth mission who runs to the bathroom and he just yelled as a had to stab him 4 times in the back then i became bullet cheese. So yea I did end up raging as I had to just alert everyone from behind cover and shoot it out to get past.

Well there were never that many around at any one time, and stealth games more then others require quality development, not something publishers want to spend money on when they can just switch out some textures and print another FIFA.
