EDIT:

It seems the best course of action right now is to avoid steam sites.

Do not log in or out of your account, or visit any of the Steam store pages. Click no links. In the words of Lord Humongous, "Just walk away."

Steam seems to be linking into other people's accounts. Clicking my name in the top right corner of the page and selecting account details links me to someone else's account details complete with email, paypal, account balance and purchase history.

Going to steam in a browser without logging in, selecting the "recently viewed" under "for you" will bring up a page with items in the cart. Clicking on the cart will load a page with items in the and new ones in the wishlist. Clicking on the wishlist will load some random person's wishlist.

Going to Steam through my phone has the above issues as well as loading into a random language.

Anyone else having issues like this?

Sorry about the clickbait but considering that Steam has currently reached a point of people being able to randomly see other people's account information.... and this is RANDOM people seeing OTHER RANDOM people, not a targeted attack or the like.... be very aware.

Steam is having a BIG f&$@up right now.

I just made a post about it... literally, JUST. And yes, it appears to be everyone.

Ah, sorry. I did a quick search but couldn't find any mention of the issue.

It keeps changing languages on me. English, Russian, I think Japanese, French. Happens after I click into a new page or tab.

Right, important note, based on what I'm reading on the tweet page there, DON'T VISIT ANY STEAM SITES UNTIL IT IS RESOLVED. That appears to be the best way to protect yourself, from what I can make out.

Best advice would be to log-out asap or otherwise do not touch anything.

Also, if you have a PayPal set up on the account, unlink it.

Actually don't even do that.

The advice I've been reading is literally TOUCH NOTHING.

Go to your library page and stay there. Do nothing else. Click no links. Visit no more pages. Absolutely minimise all of your contact with the steam servers.

Can we download? I was hoping to download Bioshock so I could play it this evening.
It appears its just the store and Valve multiplayer servers that are getting hit. Downloads appear to work fine, as does game verification (Steam DRM).

From what I've been reading, as long as you click the library tab in steam and stay there, you're ok.

Don't chance it, I'd say. Minimize all contact with the Steam servers until you hear more.

Welp I already screwed up. Before I realized Steam was hacked- I couldn't buy Transistor for some reason until I checked my account.
It wasn't mine, it was some dude's with $6 on it ... and then I checked the forums to see how chaotic Steam is under the hacker attack.

This is really bad. Someone can see my account, and I didn't realize crap was happening. I already was checking out store links man ... crap. I can't even log out of my account it won't let me. What is going on ...??!
Just stop clicking stuff. Don't try to log out. Stop trying to access pages. Go to your library page and just minimise the entire thing to the tray.

Its probably not a hack, more likely a particularly nasty server malfunction.

I really would absolutely not do anything at all that might cause more interactions with the server at this point. Especially since frankly the first person in at Steam who knows what they're doing should be hitting the figurative big red button that cuts the entire thing off; this is way too serious for anything less, even on Christmas Day.

Valve's put out no warnings as of yet - it's come from unaffiliated accounts - but the servers were deliberately attacked and taken down according to this:

Getting hit? Like hackers? LizardSquad at is again or something?
Some script kiddies along the lines of LizardSquad threatened Steam, and as we can see, it went down. Its still unknown whether Steam was under heavy load and they pushed it over the top with a DDoS attack, or if Steam just got hit hard by all the people trying to buy games during the Christmas sale.

Either way, I doubt Steam got hacked. It just got slammed hard enough that it broke a bit.

I just attempted to download a game, and it was going fine. Only got to 350kbps, but that's because my internet is shit and I'm downloading a lot of stuff from other sources at the moment.
