Whenever I try to log into my steam account I get the "Steam is having trouble connecting to the Steam servers" error.
This has been going on for months. Reinstalling Steam does nothing, and my machine's fully updated on all its drivers and Windows updates.
I'm using a SMCD3GN wireless router/modem unit, but I am connected via ethernet cable. I have opened all the ports listed at Valve's help site and double checked that they are open using PFPort Checker.
I get my internet from Rogers (in Canada), and everything else works fine.
The damnedest part is that my 4 year old laptop has no problem connecting to Steam wirelessly, but I obviously can't use that for gaming. (EDIT: I also tried plugging my laptop into the modem/router, but it can't connect that way either)
Any ideas? I might try picking up a wireless card for my tower, but it seems odd that a wired connection wouldn't work when a wireless one does.
