Anybody going to be trying this too see what its like on their macs? (release 12th may?)

I'm going to give it a try, the only reason I have a pc is because I game heavily, I would love to have a mac as a primary and pc as bootcamped on the mac for those few programs that dont work on mac (obviously its the other way around atm :p)

so yeah, anybody going to see what its like? without flame please :p

I was thinking about reviewing it and putting it on youtube, just so users out there can get an idea of what steam & the newly compatible games perform like on mac without being bootcamped.

apparently quite a few source games are moving over with this release, I cant wait.

*braces for barrage of hate*

I don't have a mac, but I will shortly. The fact that Steam runs on it is awesome.

I'm probably going to try it.

I hate having to use PC bootcamp. Because I hate PC.

RAWR!

I wonder if I'll be able to play KotOR on Mac Steam...

I dislike Mac for reasons I won't go into, and I dislike Steam because I dislike Digital Distribution and Valve (I refuse to use their messed up capitalization). To me it's like the anti-Reese's.

well I know they have promised counter strike source, the orange box (inc portal), most half-lifes with this release, but they did say that its possible a lot of the others may work due to the coding within steam, but they werent promising anything, so who knows, I personally hope css, half-life, and gta 4 (probably not) work, that way I can play the games im playing atm while relaxing, still trying to find something I enjoy doing when im not hammering css 50 hours a week :p, still aint found anything yet.

I'll give it a shot. PC gaming is best done on Windows still, because developers don't use and optimize for OpenGL enough, and you're not as free to customize your Mac.

I think I would prefer being unable to customize much, seems funny but I feel like my pc goes slower now than back in the days of pentium 3 & 4, those days I played games with a ballmouse and a grimy white-ish keyboard, and I was awesome, everything feels slower and glitchier now :S, even though I know its not, OH GOD AM I GETTING OLD

@ Dienekes: GTA IV for Mac is a no-hoper, since it uses Games for Windows Live. Guess what operating system that's exclusive for?

I hear you will be able to play the players on Mac.
Confirmed in official announcement. Also, any Valve[footnote]And any other developer that signs up for Steam Play[/footnote] games you have registered on Steam for Windows will yield the equivilent Mac version for free.

I hate to break it to yall, but I've been playing source games on my Mac without dual-booting and crossover for months now: Not definitive proof, but what I have on hand. [http://i43.tinypic.com/hve550.png]

Also, if you like KOTOR: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=4124&iTestingId=15702

I'd actually stick with it so that I could play my other PC games with just one version of steam, but the upgraded version of Steam doesn't behave too well! Its literally running away from my cursor! I need to change a few settings, it seems.

well, I already own a pc and no mac so it doesnt really effect me, them releasing steam on mac will increase their sales but not much as I believe the total percentage of mac users is 10%.

1st point well thats certainly one thing, but conversely GTA IV is also avaliable on PS3, they could release a mac version no problem, but it'd unlikely be on the same have it on one have it on other thing 1st party Valve source games will be.

Your second point I'll be pedantic on and say thats not really whats happening, it's more the same version, you wont have TF2 (PC) and TF2 (MAC) you'll just have TF2, steam won't differentiate between the two, and will sync all appropriate cloud data between all installs on all your macs and PCs in much the same way it does now.

In much the same way Blizzard have for a long time relased both and considered both as one, so will Valve from now on for 1st Party games on the source engine. They will give the option for others to follow suit, through their steamworks toolkit.

Valve have reaslised that supporting small markets is the way to make them grow, and by further increasing the macs exposer to the popular games market, they'll increase the amrket there, and gain alot of good rep from people who use both.
