Okay, this may be a stupid question for a debate but I'm curious what people have thought. I've started to actually save up to have some fun with the steam holiday sales. But I'm curious about the sales themselves, have you guys noticed if the "Big sales"[Ones at the top of the screen], are better than the "Flash Sales"? Because I'm trying to figure out because I know last year I saw a game I wanted on a flash sale and got it but was cheaper on the large sale.

I would write, no. They seem to vacillate between 10 to 75% off. A game my be down 25% one day, 50% the next, even when a big sale is not going on (Happened with Torchlight 2.) I got Velvet Assassin for only $1.25 the other day! Not a great game, but for the cost of a soda? Sure!

What is neat with these big sales is quantity. The sheer number of things on sale rather than just say, 3.

Also, the bundles. Hard to get a great deal on a bundle as you're likely to already own a bunch.

Bottom line: always worth checking out.

Mmmkay, I just keep looking for game specifics. I'm keeping myself on a tight pre-Christmas budget so I'm trying to see if I can roll the dice oh whether not I'll see the same thing in there again.

My experience says you will. Example: last Summer they had Batman Arkham City for about $10. During this sale, it was $7.49. Give it 6 months, it may cost $5.00 (for 24 hours). They can drive you crazy as you think about buying something for $12.00, wait too long, and it is back to $49.99.

Just be patient. They tend to go on sale again over time.

Couple more words of caution:

1) Look up the release date of the game on sites like www.gamefaqs.com. The release date on Steam appears to be when THEY got the right to post it. So I accidentally paid a lot for 10 year old game thinking it only 1 year old. Makes the eyes bleed.

2) See what is required. They may post that you'll need an account with something. For instance, I paid $2.49 for Prince of Persia the Forgotten Sands. Cool! Except, I had to open an account with Wii U too, which, I'd rather not have had to do. But, if you want the game, you got to play by their rules.

Franchise bundles if you're interested in getting into it are pretty good. It was cheaper for me to get the Darksiders franchise than it was for me to buy the 2nd one alone.

That being said, Steam sales seem lack luster this year. There's no earnable tickets this year and I'm not seeing much better than 75% off individual titles, I remember 80-90% off games in previous years at least for valve games.

I spent over $100 this past summer and have yet to make it through half the crap I bought yet. This sale hasn't really had anything of interest yet for me. I picked up KotOR2 about an hour ago for $2.49 but I really don't even count that. I have considered Skyrim at 50% off but I just don't have time to get back into it yet so opted out. Anno 2070 is one I want but this last summer a lot of people had problems with it AND the DRM (yay Ubisoft) allowing them to play at all. I really don't even know what I am looking for to pop up, but Steam can sometimes make me go "Oh yeah, I forgot about that game." The only thing I am really watching is the Bethesda bundle.

I really hope Skyrim gets to the 20.00 range. Right now its at 30.00 but for me to buy it, I would definitely do 20.00 in a heartbeat. Maybe it will get that way tomorrow...heres to crossing my fingers.

i see that saints row 3 is on sale for 7,50. and it's the complete edition with all the milion gazilion little dlc's and stuff. wont get any cheaper then it is now :p

personally i have only bought arma II combined operations and take on helicopters. Arma II because me disc broke en take on helicopters because it seemed fun, i was pretty wrong, it's balls :p

i usually wait it out a bit, specially if there are "complete editions" of games, because those can get a better discount (value wise) later on.

Steam sale prices can be all over the place but for a general rule, the majority of games rarely have better deals than 75% off. Complicating this, is that new games are usually 25% to 33% (few months old) and games that are a little older than that can be 75% but may be 25% based on the whim of their makers; like I said it's complicated.

These sales encourage impulse buying so I try not to buy any games that I won't play immediately, and definitely not new games if I don't plan on beating them right away, because the games will be a fraction of the price in a couple of months. I plan on beating Dishonored and Hotline Miami over my Christmas break and I was tempted by Of Orcs and Men, but there is no way I'll get to it, so I'll wait until I have time and it'll be cheaper when I do.

I'd love that (80-90% off!!!) But I do see some games I got from them for $12 that cost $9.99 now. Sill a bargain. I picked up Hitman Blood Money for $2.50. Not bad at all. (Stuggling against buying Mass Effect for $5.... I already have ME2 on PC I haven't finished!)

Merry Christmas all.
