I have in my possession a check for $100, signed, sealed, and delivered by my mother as her way of saying "Merry Whatever-It-Is-You-Celebrate". (Saturnalia, thanks for asking.) I have on my computer the Steam Holiday Sale, with its plethora of really, REALLY cheap games.

Last year, this was fairly easy---there were a lot of games I didn't own because when I was married I had to watch the budget and I'd rather not have been constantly nagged over buying games. Freshly divorced, I went...well, shall we say, a bit "hog wild"? Biggest pickup was Fallout 3, but I ended up buying 15 games. And when I got my tax refund two months later I padded out the rest of my collection.

This year? With my standard of living noticeably improved by lack of a money sponge living in the house with me, I have bought every new release I wanted to get this year (Napoleon Total War, Patrician 4, Civilization 5, Victoria 2, Mount&Blade Warband, and New Vegas, plus both Sims 3 expansions---Ambitions and Late Night---that came out in 2010.) I even converted a few old games I had on disc to Steam downloads just because the price was right ($8 for Oblivion GotY edition when it went on sale in June, for example, plus a few much older games at under $3 so I could archive the aging discs to prolong their life.)

Point of the matter is that it's now December and I want to spend my holiday money on games, but I might actually run out of ideas before I get through the whole $100 (so those of you on my Steam friends list, don't be surprised if an item on your wishlist magically shows up on your account---I may not have a red suit and a bunch of Finnish livestock pulling a sled, but...)

For Discussion! Open thread---what have you bought from this year's Steam Holiday Sale?

I haven't bought anything yet. There are a few games I'm looking at buying, like Civ 4 and Batman: AA, but I'm waiting until after Christmas for those because I asked for quite a few of them. I'm also watching the daily deals to see if anything really piques my interest between now and Jan. 2.

So far, I've bought quite a lot. I have problems with impulse buying where Steam is concerned.

AI War: Fleet command, which is disturbingly complicated.
Project: Aftermath, which is shit.
Trials 2, which is a less enjoyable version of a load of free flash games.
Bioshock, which is awesome.
Burnout Paradise, which will be awesome when my wired 360 controller shows up.
Disciple 3: Renaissance, which I have never heard of before and know pretty much nothing about.

This has cost me just under £20.

I was going to buy Resident Evil 5 yesterday because it was only $9 in the sale, but then I realised I have no money in my PayPal account which means I have to wait 3-5 working days for the money to transfer which means Resident Evil 5 wont be on sale anymore when the money transfers :(.

I wish Oblivion worked for me on my vista 64 machine. It worked for months then now it justs won't load a saved game or a new game. I tried uninstalling etc but it's still not working.

I just bought F.E.A.R, it looks interesting and like you bought some old games I already own for archive reasons.
