I just purchased a copy of Warhammer 40k Dawn of War II and I'm trying to install it, but I keep getting an invalid code message. What can I do? Do I have to use steam to play? If not, then how? If so, then what?

Already opened so I can't return. Really jonesing to play. Anything would help as long as I get to play. There may be a possibility that the code was stolen before I bought it.

At this point I'll even accept any keys you think will work.

For Dawn of War II, you have to use Steam. Won't let you play it without it.
I just hope you don't install it, only to get the graphics-killing update that it gave me. Haven't been able to play it since.

Maybe I should just trade it for an Xbox copy. Is there such a thing?

I'll look it up later, my brain hurts from lack of sleep and general frustration with pc games.

Nope, it's a PC only title. Links to you GFWL account, so you may see some xbox live accounts with it on the list, but that's just because we can use our XBL accounts on GFWL.

Remember to add in all the -'s. Though, are you installing it by putting the CD in the drive and following the install instructions? Or are you just entering the code straight into Steam?

But yes, for the code (which should read xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx), you need to put in those four dashes manually.

Good one. It is an RTS. I actually laughed out loud, well snorted in derision anyway.

Do you not have a key or is the key you are using invalid? I had a problem with my Saints Row 2 key being a 5x4 digit code instead of a 5x5 digit code. I had to scan my receipt and game box and send it to Steam to get a new one. It took a week or so and I got it rectified. I shouldn't have bothered though.

If you bought in a retail shop you should be able to get a return if the game is missing the key.

From memory Dawn of War II uses Steam for verification and Computer AIDS (GFWL) for online verification.

I have a key, but the packaging was a little sketchy when I bought it. I think the code was copied because when I used it I got a invalid message.

Here's a better question, is it worth all the effort to get a new key just to play this game. Is it fun.

Dawn of War 2 is excellent. Though I think Chaos Rising's campaign is much more interesting (so if you had to choose, pick that one). Retribution's single player is very meh, and Dawn of War 2's gets repetitive.

I found it fun, but I'm not a big fan of RTS games that are all about "the economy" or "build orders". It is much more limited, in that you only get a set number of troops to play with. I liked that, but if you liked Dark Crusade, or other more traditional RTSs like Starcraft, Supreme Commander or C&C then maybe it won't be your bag.
