i have the game vampire: the masquerade - bloodlines (or just vampire) on CD format from a few years ago. a few days ago, i dusted it off and installed it on my new computer. the installation went fine but when i try to play it i get a breif black screen and this damn engine error that says "Available memory less than 15MB!!! -929792" nothing more, nothing less.

before i continue, allow me to state that i have currently 399 GB avaiable on my c drive.

i figured there must be something wrong with my cd. so i borrowed my brothers copy, uninstalled, reinstalled, and got the same messege. thus was the failure of attempt #2.

so i said, "fuck it. i dont really like steam but i'll buy it from them." bought it for $19.99, downloaded, and installed it and got the same error upon my attempt to play it. so i failed a 3rd time.

i went to steam to get some info on the error and found nothing. but steam tells me i am not allowed a refund.

can anyone tell me what the problem is or am i just shit out of luck, $19.99, and a good game?

when a computer refers to memory, it isn't talking about hard drive space, it's talking about RAM.

but you probably have much more then 15mb, as that's a tiny tiny amount.

Do you have an appropriate video card?

If you already installed it it wouldn't be asking about HDD space... as Altorin just said it's talking about RAM...
and I never see this error because i have 6 times the normal amount of RAM... if normal is 2G :D

let the record show i have 4GB of RAM.
Right click on the shortcut, choose properties, compability, mark the Run this program in compability mode for:, choose Windows XP SP2

should fix this issue.

Are you using a different operating system to what you used last time?

I doubt Microsoft has come even close to making everything compatible.

Not sure mate, but these patches may help you. Unsure of the best order to apply them as it's been a couple years since I last played this.

If there's any missing from there than here should have:

This was maybe the best RPG ever made.

Spot on. I can't be sure that this is the problem but have a search on google for "bloodlines windows 7 error" or something similar to see if anyone else is having the same problem. You might also try "bloodlines memory error". If someone else has the problem then there is probably someone who has fixed the problem as well.

yeah bloodlines is awesome but buggy as hell, but its always had a very strong community behind it, if there is an issue with the game chances are you will find a unofficial patch for it somewhere, just have to look hard enough

I just did that out of curiosity and got 11,000 hits. and all of the hits I saw are the same error he's describing

so at least a few of them must talk about fixing it.
