My question is this...has anyone ever been deeply embedded into a certain game genre, then one day decide to try something completely "outside the box" only to be blown away by how much they enjoyed this new genre game? If so, what was the comfort zone and which game turned you around?

I had played pretty much only JRPGs for a few years, and then tried to diversify myself by playing both shooters and action games.

It turned out for the best, as I now like both genres about as much as JRPGs.

as i was small at the time i played Kingdom hearts
loved it and i wish i could lock myself in my room and wear head phones to replay it since it is such an embarassing game to play

This only happened to me once, and that was a long time ago. I started off only playing strategy games such as Starcraft and AoE2. The first time I tried an RPG, Morrowind, it changed my life forever.

I've tried a racing game once (not a big sport/racing games fan) called 'burn out'. I enjoyed it for about 45 minutes or so and after that got bored with it.
Same goes for baseball on the Wii.
