The death of the comic book artist, whose work also included 'Hellblazer' and 'The Punisher,' was announced Saturday morning on social media.
This struck me a bit more than I was expecting.
I'll admit, even as a fan of Hellblazer and Punisher, this didn't crush me but as the co-creator and artist of Preacher, that one struck a blow, that I will say.

Gonna steal something from the Vulture that the author pretty well articulated something I was thinking about.

Though it's a tragedy that he was taken so soon, we can take some small comfort in the knowledge that he lived long enough to see his most famous work get translated to television as part of the comics-adaptation boom.

And he liked it, in case you were wondering.

How do you feel about Preacher now being turned into a TV show after so many previous attempts to get it to the screen did not work out?
Myself and Garth have always thought that Preacher would work best as a TV show. The book ran for nearly six years so there was always going to be too much to try to cram into a two hour movie. Seth and Evan are self-confessed fans of the book so they have a true feel for the story and characters. That said, they are not being overly reverential about the material and they know that what works in a comic book does?t necessarily work in a TV series. It?s great that this is finally happening and I?ve really liked what I?ve seen so far. I hope fans of the book will like it too.

Huh, been doin' an awful lotta quotin' and not really sayin' much myself, I guess I just like dealin' with things my own way.

This is a big loss to the comics world. While I'll admit to not being too familiar with his american work I have read a lot of the stuff he did for 2000AD in the 80's and 90's which included working on some of my favourite characters Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper and ABC Warriors.

RIP mate

Ruptured appendix. Best guess - he had been in pain for some time but like so many people I know, likely didn't get to a hospital until well past too late. I loved his run on Wolverine. He was great at drawing grimdark characters and giving them an eery level of realism, kinda like Frank Quitely with his realistic bulging and "who farted" face. In videogame terms, he was one of those artists breaking out of the uncanny valley hump and the wide majority of his work often dealt with some disturbing shit. He will be missed.

Rogue Trooper. I played the game adaptation for hours with my childhood buddy.

Love that game as well. Shame there's never been a sequel which is pretty odd considering the devs Rebellion actually own 2000AD so own the rights to Rogue Trooper. I don't know if you've ever read any of the comics but if you haven't then I'd recommend them seeing as you obviously enjoyed the game
