He lost his battle to ALS.

Let's hope Bill Maher's not gonna show up to be a dick about this too.

Anyway, Spongebob under his guidance was great, and he always seemed like such a relaxed dude. Sad to see him go.

I was going to make a Bill Maher joke; but Mr. Hillenburg memory deserves better.

RIP Steven

SpongeBob may no longer be anywhere near as good as it was, but damn, when it was good, it was good. My friends and I still quote SpongeBob all the time. The lid, how to blow a perfect bubble, 'atleast Im safe inside my mind', TWO GOLD DUBLOONS!, 'No, this is Patrick' etc.

SpongeBob being made for kids and enjoyed by adults too, made me think about Stan Lee, Spiderman and Maher. Even if SpongeBob isn't as popular or lasted as long as Spiderman, it certainly is remembered with a similar fondness by their audience.

Honestly the reaction of this whole Bill Maher/Stan Lee thing reminds me of this song (WARNING: LOUD AND HEAVY):

Taken too soon, I would have loved to see what else he had on the shelf of ideas. Certainly could have kept making stories.

I will always remember Spongebob being a cartoon my mother and I both liked, which was rare. Quality stuff, RIP.

...That's some depressing news.

Spongebob has been running for 20 years (good Lord, I feel old...), and for all it's ups and downs, I still have a soft spot for the little yellow sponge.
