Sticky buttons...

My children seemed to have gotten a hold of one of my PS3 controllers and got some stickiness going on with it. A few of the buttons now stick down and take their sweet time coming back up. Anyone know of a good fix for this?
I've contemplated WD40, but worried that it might destroy the thing...

Just wash it, dunk it in some soapy water and rinse with cold water and let it air dry.
That only works if it's dirty though.
You could always just use a screw driver to open the thing up CAREFULLY and see if anything is mechanically wrong with it.
