So this is fairly pointless, but it's not like anyone cares. :D

OMG YOU GUYZ LOOK AT DAT NUMBAH OVER 5000 MESSAGES?!?!? I WAS LIKE DAFUQ?!?!? LOLLLLLLL!

So, I don't know. I just laughed quietly to myself when that popped up in the corner for me and then instantly dropped back down to zero.

To start some kind of discussion: Is this glitch something that has happened to you? Does it happen kind of often on The Escapist?

Also, how do you feel when you see that yellow envelope in the corner light up, letting you know that you have a message/have been quoted by someone? Does it make you feel good? Do you not care?

Let me know in your posts below! :D

Never happened to me, and generally, it's more a feeling of dread when I get that little envelope, why? Usually it's because I'm an asshat, and it's someone responding nastily to me being an asshat so it's generally a case of "ok what's the matter now"

My first thought was "IT'S OVER 5000!".

Anyways, that right there's a neat little glitch. To answer your question: I like getting messages. Typically, it's just a reminder of a site event or a system message informing me of a recent badge acquisition, but sometimes I'll be quoted. It is those rare occasions that give my whole life meaning.

Have some extra meaning in your life (;
I'm the same though, getting messages is pretty cool.
Hey look, here's one now!

With you having said that, I have taken it upon myself to quote you where you've not been an asshat, so you will have, at least once, gotten a quote notification in which it's a friendly note.

[Insert friendly note here, smiley-emote optional.]

On topic:
In my years here, I've never had that happen to me, however that's not to say it has never happened. I've heard more than once about this happening to people, but, for the most part, it's never been a persistant problem.

As for caring about whether I have messages or not, I tend to not feel any differently towards the little number than when it sits at zero. Due simply to the fact that most messages I receive are related to certain user groups I like to watch. I don't post much, so it's more often than not that I don't get quoted, and for the most part I'm around the Escapist IRC channel #escapist [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/chat/], so if people need to drop me a message, they can do so in a more direct manner.
