Well well, I have a story escapist forums!

The other day I was looking at a house with my parents to buy now that I have a well paying, full time job. One house in particular didn't appeal to me because its back yard was a graveyard. I point out this fact to my parents who say it's a great buy. My mother proceeds to set me up for a joke by saying, "What it's not like they are going to come up and grab you."

Assuming that she would get the joke, I said, "Well, you always have to be read for the zombie apocalypse." And she goes off on a seven minute tirade on how zombies don't exist and I should stop being stupid. I'm 24 and an avid fantasy writer, making a joke about a fantasy scenario. My dad just laughs and scolds my mother when shes done because I'm at a loss for words.

So, has anyone else had a situation like this?

OT: Um... Gosh Let me think about this... Oh I know.
Jokingly on Fathers day I said I was soon to be a father patting my Girlfriends Belly.
To which my mother promptly went insane and tried kicking us out =L

My mother does this sometimes as well. She's not dumb, so I'm not sure why, but she does tend to miss really obvious sarcasm. I think mothers intentionally 'miss' things so they can make a point about something that bothers them, maybe.

When I was collecting magic cards, I was waiting for a new serie to get out. A friend of mine played it too and was also waiting for it. Every day I cycled by the shop to see if they were out. One day they were. I came home and my mom and a friend of hers were sitting there while I shouted out: "I'm going to tell my phone my friend it's out!"
The looks on their faces.. At first I didn't understand what was wrong.

My parents believe everything I say, even when I'm just joking. Apparently this is also true for most people, as I come across as very serious.

This can come in handy, like for when I convinced this girl I know that every time lights flicker it's because time has stopped, and when it restarts, we perceive that gap as a blank. She believed me.

Recognisable. But then again, some people ey? Use the (miss)interpretation of things always to their own advantage.

I introduced three guy friends to my dad as my lovers. He literally had a heart attack. Still feel bad about that one. On the other hand, I'm a little peeved that he still doesn't believe I'm straight.

I swear my mum's never even heard of sarcasm, so maybe it's a mum thing. That said, my brother claims that everything stupid he ever says is 'sarcasm' so I can kind of understand her confusion. Actually, my Dad misses sarcasm too... yeah, my family are just a bit daft. They'll believe anything, or at least that you mean anything.

Yeah, causing someone unbearable pain, almost killing him and shortening his lifespan is ALWAYS fun and all.

He survived did he not? Plus... his son having homosexual relations shouldn't be all that shocking... even if he did introdice three of them.

I'm usually very serious and speak in a monotone voice, so nobody can tell when I am joking. It can come in handy. I remember one time I once convinced a girl I know that professional bowling is scripted.

As much as your avatar is zetta awesome, you son of a digit . I feel guilty enough already. Neither of us were aware he had any heart problems until' then and it was supposed to be a joke since he already thought I was gay(And was very supportive of my non-sexuality).

I do think this problem will appear with my mother within the next 2-3 years. It's hard to explain why, but if I know my mum it will happen. I can't wait -.- ...

Oh waaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day. School was let out early and because of this my bus took the opposite route as normal so instead of getting home in 15 min it was over an hour.

I get home and my mother asks me where I had been... "Oh you know, out drinking with the boys"
Good thing I ducked, that was the first and only time my mother swung at me. Good thing she has a sense of humor after I explained.
