So after being on a garbage computer for a long time. Now, I've got a new laptop. Better than my old one but not a monster rig by any means. I'm hoping to get some games to play on it but, being a consoler, I'm mostly clueless.

So any strategy game recomendations you guys could give me would be much appreciated, turn-based or RTS, I'm game for anything. Some of my favorites are the Total War series (haven't been able to play Empire yet, sadly), Civilization, and Hearts of Iron.

I realize I could look up some titles on google but I trust my fellow gamers/Escapists more than I do a search engine.

Starcraft and Brood Wars
Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne
Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3
Supreme Commander
Sacrifice
Universe At War: Earth Assault
Sins of a Solar Empire

There, that list should keep you busy for a while.

Civilization 3 and 4 are my all-time favorites.

World In Conflict if you aren't in a buildy mood.

Supreme Commander if you like your games to be crushing in depth and length.

And Civilization 4 if all you want to do is build.

Starcraft.

If you haven't played it yet...DO IT.
When Blizzard finally decides to release a sequel, then get that too.

If we don't get news of a Warcraft 4 after Starcraft 2's release, I'm going to go on a rampage in their offices.
Then get ready to rampage.
Blizzard has already said that WoW is basically Warcraft 4.

Hey, we pretty much had the same list. What a coincidence.
[sub]I only like Warcraft 3...[/sub]

Civ, Total War, and Hearts of Iron! All cornerstones of my collection, so I think I can help.

First off, some of the more "pure" strategy/wargames:

- Rise of Nations
- Age of Empires 3
- Crusader Kings Deus Vult, Europa Universalis 2, Victoria, and Hearts of Iron 2 Doomsday (with savegame converters, that's 900 years of history at your fingertips from 1066-1964 across one mega-savegame, the holy grail of Paradox geekdom)
- Medieval II (if you don't already have it, that is; Steam's got it on sale for $5!)

Now, stuff from my collection I think you'd like:
- SimCity 4 (get the Deluxe Edition; Rush Hour adds a bunch of great content to the transport infrastructure)
- Tropico
- Port Royale 2
- Mount & Blade (2008 GotY for me)
- Football Manager 2010/Out of the Park Baseball X (if you like sports strategy games---obviously, if you don't like soccer/baseball, these games won't change your mind)
- Capitalism II
- Railroad Tycoon II Platinum (1998 GotY, yes Starcraft fans I know it came out that year)

As was Afore Mentioned, Civ IV is Exceedingly good.

I also greatly enjoyed the Age of Empires series, with #2 being my Favorite despite it's relative age.
