Not even a mention of one of their primer flagship titles.

What do we get? A limited addition cartridge for SFII (even though it's Street Fighter's birthday) the regular SNES that might set your console on fire [https://www.videogamer.com/news/limited-edition-street-fighter-2-cartridge-may-make-your-snes-catch-fire]?

Really, Capcom? This is how you treat your fans? And forget us, one of the things that kept you on the map? This is borderline insulting and just another thing in the long lists of the reasons that makes a lot of us believe the capcom really doesn't know what they are doing.

If you had a cornerstone in your company, do you think this would be enough to celebrate it on it's 30's anniversary?

Never knew Capcom had a forum

Found nothing for US Capcom recognizing it but here is the japanese SF twitter account which mentions it at least

[tweet t=https://twitter.com/SF_Community/status/902546724387905537]

rough google translation:
[# Street Fighter 30th Anniversary] Today, 8/30 is an anniversary celebrating the 30th anniversary of "First Street Fighter" released! Everyone, fans, we were able to celebrate 30th anniversary supported by the players. thank you very much! The street fighter development team

This guy also seems somewhat important - https://twitter.com/Yoshi_OnoChin

The US blog only recognizes it coupled with a costume pack but that was on Aug 16
Could of at least made them free for celebrations sake

I'm not much of an anniversary person to begin with but for sake of thread -
No, I'd at minimum make something free for a week - like an unreleased retro skin for Ryu/Ken in the newest SF
Alternatively release lots of official artwork - like what these guys unofficially did

To be fair, the manufacturer of those cartridges has come out saying it's just a reproduction cartridge and that the disclaimer is a (poorly worded) warning for careless people trying to play it on a SNES that's been gathering dust for years/decades and might not be in a state to play games anymore.

I'm one to be fair, but not in this case.

A celebration where only 5500 can take place in, and even less than that who have a working SNES.

This is how capcom decides to treat fans for them for three decades.

Eh, the new Blazblue patch and Jubei just came out, who cares about SF lol.
Not Capcom thats for sure and they are doing their damndest to make sure no one else does either. Then again its FFs 30th anniversary and look what square enix is doing for that yeah hardly anything in Japan there is some merc tucked away in some shops thats about it and FFVIIs 20th anniversary lol cant find anything unless you count the remake which wont be here for a while. Oh actually I think there may be a wallscroll I distinctly remember Cloud, Sephiroth and a Tifa one except the Tifa one was sold out everywhere dammit but that did seemt to be more for advent children tbh.

Strange as with the 15th anniversary Capcom put out that Hyper collection that had all SF2 copies in one along with the anime film (i.e the only SF anime/film or even story that did not suck horribly) and the Xbox one even had 3rd strike as well. Granted for me they all ran horrendously as in ridiculous dropped frames that made them unplayable but they did something and as far as I can tell I seem to be the only one to have those issues (on multiple copies PS2 and Xbox) so perhaps I won the shitty lottery.

Hows Makoto now? May try and drop back in but ya know best intentions and stuff it rarely plays out that way but we will see.

Okay?

I wasn't aware that game companies were obligated to observe the anniversaries of their products.

Seems like a bizarre thing to pick on.

Besides, if they did do something for it, you know that would just involve trying to sell you something, right?

They're not obliged, but it's usually good form to at least observe it in some manner. If it goes by without being mentioned, it's not a good sign for the franchise (e.g. Castlevania's 30th anniversary was similarly ignored). Heck, even when it is observed, it's sometimes not enough for fans (e.g. Diablo).

As a company, they are supposed to sell me something. It's up to me if what they sell is worth my money. Honestly, if it was good, hell yes I would buy it. But that's the same for anything, regardless of its status.

I'm a fighting game fan. Have been since I played Karate-Ka in the arcades as a little boy. And yes, I just dated myself to being hella old.

... I'm from New York. I blame that use of "Hella" from watching tourneys based in California.

This is just a long line of mishandling of the fans from Capcom. Stemming all the way back with them trying to convince us that no one wants Mega Man any more, to how it handled it's online servers from many games, to how they ported Sf V... to how they mishandled SF V when that was supposed to be the return of the unquestioned dominance of SF.. there is just a bunch of things that Capcom has been failing at which is turning people off.

And that's the issue.

People not interested means less sales. Less sales gives companies the excuse of "Oh, we're not going to do this because there isn't a market". That means some of my favorite IPs are held captive because there isn't a market due to the company not fostering it correctly.

We're talking about an industry who can admit that Mass Effect Andromeda's sales helped their Q1 sales by 13% more than last year [http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-07-28-the-four-times-ea-mentioned-mass-effect-andromeda-in-its-financial-results], but then shelf it because of all the bad press around it.

In short, their treatment of their IPs directly affect our ability to enjoy them in the future. If they don't garner good press due to their own actions, the fans suffer. They will not make the game for just me, nor everyone in the escapist. Just a hoped-upon market that can only be created by their actions. And their attempts to do that suck at this point.

They are not obligated to celebrate it. They are not obligated to earn a profit either.

Meh. Nobody cares about the original Street Fighter and Capcom is still capitalizing on the success of Street Fighter 2. That was like, 25 years ago? That would be a bigger reason to celebrate. Street Fighter 2 Turbo is still the best game in the franchise in my opinion. They never topped that. I can't stand the visual style of the newer games. Characters just look so out of proportion and ridiculous.

Are you really shocked? Cause I kind of am. Capcom has been giving SF the royal treatment since SF4 and has given all other franchises a big middle finger. Ace Attorney localizations are decided by a coin flip. Mega Man is only brought out for collections. Breath of Fire has gone mobile because one game sucked. Darkstalkers got the hostage treatment along with AA. Demon's Crest would be a great addition to the surge of Metroidvania's hitting the market but nope. SFxT was just a mess with the reality show and BBA Mega Man rubbing salt in the wound and on disc DLC that was exclusive to PS3 users but was on the disc of the 360.

I say any negative press Capcom's been getting over MvCI is just karma hitting them hard.
