I stabbed a kid with a pencil once.
I got arrested.

The point of sharing that is this: Schools are off their fucking rockers. Slap the girls' hands away from her phone and put her in detention, if you must.
Or stab her with a pencil...

Sounds like she could have stopped it at any time and avoided arrest. she could have obliged when her teacher told her to stop, and she could have given up the phone when the school security officer asked. Instead she refused to cooperate and forced the school officials to go to a higher authority. I really have trouble sympathizing with this chick. The classroom is for learning, not socializing. Plus, by doing all this, she disrupted the education of those around her.

The Samsung Cricket, the police report noted, was recovered "from the buttocks area" of the teenager.
Wait wait wait... what? Can someone translate buttocks area? I know English pretty damn well, but I am unsure of how to take that.

On another note maybe she should have watched those Never talk to the police videos :)

Finally... it is worrying to see youth treat maths with such disregard. Math was up there with my national language as one of the few subjects in which no fucking around was allowed.

Man... I fucking hate idiots.
Why didn't she simply put the damn phone away? it would have solved so much.
I don't think anything quite like this has ever happened in any of the schools I've gone to, atleast not in my class.

:EDIT:
I just remembered, something like this DID happen at my school.
but that it was because the student treatened a teacher with a knife (or something like that).
Luckiely the gym teacher was there to stop him, he first commanded the student to drop it, and then when he wouldn't comply the gym teacher tackled him and managed to break his nose and left arm... I think the teacher didn't get fired to boot :D ´
the student went to jail for atempted murder (if I remember correctly)

Why didnt the teacher just take the phone from her? Do teachers have no power anymore?

The kid deserved it. If the teacher tried anything beyond requesting that she put the phone away (like forcing the phone from the kid), the teacher could have been the one charged with assault.

Teachers are essentially professional parents. A vast majority of your courses when you want to teach are how to deal with kids. Problem is that these days when a teacher tells the parent that their kid was misbehaving the parent pulls a shitfit along the lines of "Don't tell me how to raise MY kid!" I've seen it happen.

The kid must have been a repeat offender for a teacher to get that fed up and bring the police into it. I'm totally on the teacher's side on this one.

Arrested? What the fuck?
That said, however, she deserved to at least have the phone confiscated.

Okay so let's say the teacher went to take the phone which was stored in her Buttocks area, the little brat could actually charge the teacher with sexual assault. It HAS happened in the past you know.

God young girls are annoying. They're only alright once they hit 16 (wink wink nudge nudge) and up to then they're the most annoying, self-centered berks ever. I'm glad she was arrested. I just like to tell them they're fat and hope they get a complex.

Ok maybe thats a bit harsh, but they are so much crueler than young boys.

That I do not doubt. I'm just surprised that it went far enough that the police had to turn up, and I don't think it warrants a full-on arrest.

If I were in that teacher's position (and it's not impossible, given that I'm currently aiming to become a history teacher), I would probably give her detention and appeal to whoever has the authority to punish her further.
Actually I'm not sure exactly what I would do. I'm hoping that they'll teach us this stuff and I won't have to resort to calling the police.

I'm not saying they should be there, but parents just don't seem to set boundaries anymore, they just let their kids have free reign over everything
QTF.

Btw, what's so hard about installing jammers inside the school? That would fix any and all problems with cellphones. If you want to talk/text, go outside.

In school you'll learn that there isn't all that much you can do. Verbal abuse can get you fired (and I guess charged with verbal abuse in court). Any kind of physical contact could get you charged with assault.

Contacting the parents is a good option but parents aren't always cooperative. This whole situation may seem a bit extreme but considering how bad the general lack of respect towards teachers (and parents alike) has gotten then I Think it's about time there was some backlash that went back to these brats.

Banning the use cellular phones from classes in school by law is a very viable solution. If there's an emergency, then the kid will have to leave the classroom and not be allowed back in for the remainder of the class. Think of it as pulling over the side of the road to talk on your cellphone in your car while NOT driving.

0_o!!! Holy shit! WTF is going on here? This shit is serious and no joke. I think I would sue or some shit if I was the parents. This to me is pretty outrageous. I can understand her being busted at school, but a misdemeanor? I would at the very least get a very good lawyer and ream them in court.
LOL! Try seeing the bigger picture, friend. Teachers aren't allowed to enforce rules themselves for fear of getting sued, so this is what happens. They have to control their classrooms somehow, good on them I say.

My old high school has a Zero-Tolerance policy on electronics now. Glad I got out of there.

"Want to call someone? Too fucking bad, wait 'til school's out. In fact, leave it at home. In the event of a lockdown, your parents can just suck it (up), because texting is so horrendously bad that your phone is as good as confiscated once it's taken out."

But the crazy policies of Mariner High School are for another post.

Anyway, I fully support taking her phone, especially for the long times suggested, so long as it's in class and the teacher is actually teaching, versus at lunch where it doesn't matter.

Texting on Phone + Class = Problem
Texting on Phone + Class - Phone = No Problem!

calling the cops... maybe a tad overboard,

here's a simpler solution: bring back physical punishment, BACK HAND THE ***** AND JUMP ON HER PHONE!!
