Stupid Helicopter Keeping Me Awake

Okay... It's 4:53am and I've been awake since 4am because a helicopter has been hovering very loudly about 100m over the house next door to me. Every 10mins or so it goes away just far enough that I can only hear it a bit, then it comes right on back.

I don't know why I'm posting this here other than to get off my frustration at the fact that I'm going to be awake for the next 48 hours and can't even get the 8 hours sleep I wanted because of some random douche/s.

I can't think of any reason a helicopter would need to be hovering here.

Is it the police or something?

Other than some sort of drug bust or medical emergency I can't think of any reason why a helicopter would be hovering above a house for an hour.

Seems rather strange.

Helicopters usually hover over places when they're searching for someobody.

Probably some stabby murdering type on the loose.

Are your doors and windows locked?

That's what I assumed at first, but there's no other noises or anything going on. I had a look outside and couldn't see anything of interest, didn't hear any voices, sirens.

I'm close to the middle of the city so any medical emergency would be an ambulance rather than a helicopter and being in Melbourne Australia, even police hardly use helicopters.

Basically, this. Make sure your doors and windows are locked, because hovering helicopters usually means some kind of search is going on, and at that hour it's not likely to be for some runaway child.

Edit: As for your comment about there being no other noises, that still doesn't rule out the police. I live out in the woods, and we occasionally get circling helicopters searching for someone. They don't send in anything else unless they find something.

Theres no laws against helicopter piloting. The solution is to figure out whose helicopter it is, then rent one, and contract it to hover over their house all night. If its a news copter, for instance, fly it over the editors house all night long.

Maybe it'll be on the news tomorrow and I can do just that!

Are you sure its a helicopter? Do you live out in farmland? Do you happen to live next to a columbian drug lord?
Well it's either a helicopter or an alien vessel that sounds exactly like a helicopter and has a red light on one end and a white on the other. Admittedly the "house" next door is huge with a tennis court and pool and I hear weird noises from there all hours of the day... Including this freaky sneeze the guy does that echoes right through my place. It's like he's unleashing a lung.

There are however noise laws. But if it's the police searching for someone, I doubt they apply to them.

I know a guy that sneezes like that.
It's like he's doing his best effort to be as loud as possible.

It's incredibly annoying!

Well it seems to be gone now, but now I'm quite awake. Sigh.

It went some distance away but was still audible for about 5mins, but this time it didn't come back.

They better have got something worthwhile out of that.

News copters in los angeles are strangely exempt as well. There appear to be no restrictions over doing so here.

so... it could be flying columbian crackheads?
sure, lets try that.

OT: well apart from police, aliens and *rolls eyes at satsuki* columbians... i dont see any reason for it to have been there.

weird.

Well they dont have to be Columbian drug lords they can be from any background. If you have drug lords living near you there is always the chance the police are out looking for marijuana plants or that one guy who escaped into the field when they raided the house. If you live in BC police raiding grow ops is an extremely common. Its suspected that something like one in every five houses containes a grow op of some kind.
Doesn't even have to be as impressive as a drug lord; marijuana grow houses and meth labs are all over the place, and considering that the neighbor lives in a freakin' compound...
