I've just had the worst time escorting a rather dim fellow in Skyrim who wouldn't stop boxing with trolls and it really got exasperating until I took a moment the look at it objectively and it's funny if you think about it...
Sort of.

What is the most infuriating or funny escort mission you've ever done?

Dead Rising, no one survivor, just the entire game.
I swear the people of Willamette must have some sort of stupid formula inserted in their water.

Man I hate escort missions.

Anyways, despite Bioshock being one of my favorite games ever, I HATE the escort sequence near the end.

...actually, come to think of it, maybe it's BECAUSE I love Bioshock so much, it makes the bad escort sequence seem worse by comparison.

Let's throw Bioshock 2 on top of that pile, too. Most of Bioshock 2. I didn't hate the game, but SOOO many damn escort quests. If I ever replay it, I'm going for the evil path for sure.

I'm also fairly certain that Mechwarrior 4 had a few awful escort sequences... it's just been awhile since I played that game (actually, maybe I should pop that back in).

I seem to remember on from KOTOR2 (in the Telos military base IIRC) being one of the most frustrating ever - not so much for its difficulty as for the idiotic AI pathfinding. The stupid Twi'lek would get stuck on every. single. crate. so you were forever having to go back and steer him around things. Ugh. What should have been a 90 second walk took forever.

Escort missions in general don't do much for me... in fact, a better question might be if anyone can think of any good / enjoyable ones? :p

I'm not sure if the "Protect"/"Defend" missions in brink count as escorting, a few of them involved escorting a hostage, regardless, they where awful, and killed the game in every way possible for me.

That game had to much to give...

There were a couple of escort missions in Fallout 3 that really got my goat. Firstly was when you're reunited with your Dad. It took me a while of running alongside him and protecting to realise that he was in fact Liam Neeson, and therefore would punch everything that crossed his path to death without breaking a sweat, and I could've just fast traveled to Rivet City and been done with it.

The other was that idiot in Little Lamplight who would constantly pester you to take him to Big Town, and when I finally agreed, what did immediately he do? If you just said "Did he go and investigate the business end of a Super Mutant's minigun and consequently turn into a fine red mist?", then you're quite correct.

Also, any escort mission where the escortee has a gigantic phobia of something, and said something turns up all the goddamn time. Escort missions are irritating enough without having to retrieve the quivering ball of cowardice on the floor for the umpteenth time after they've seen a spider/snake/their own shadow.

Its been a while since I played Mechwarrior 4 too, but if there were escort missions in it, they were probably made somewhat easier by the useage of a 40 ton walking tank.

Anyways, I cant remember completly, but there was a queat in either Oblivion or FO3 (and dont ask why I cant remember which...) that I failed because the person in question kept getting themselves killed. I ended up actually go through the area twice, the first was to kill the random mobs, the second to escort the person out.

RE4's escort mission was stupid but it wasn't that bad.
For me, the worst escort mission would be Fallout 3 when you had to move some people from one place to Jefferson Memorial. Could be partly on my stupidity. I followed them around the entire world map and then gave up. Later I quick traveled to Jefferson Memorial and they were magically there.

Psychonauts. Meat Circus.

Ashley from RE4 gets an honorable mention for never shutting up, but she's actually not terrible as a character you have to escort.

I really hate escorting/following people in Skyrim. Everybody is so damn slow and if you get too close to them they stop dead in their tracks, turn, and stare at you for 5 seconds before continuing.

Queen Amidala from Star Wars Episode I on the PS1.

"You're standing on my dress! You're standing on my dress! You're standing on my dress!"

Coupled with the fact that the game was atrocious overall makes for a pretty shitty weekend.

This this THIS. It was the same way in Oblivion. I don't know why it hasn't been fixed, because Fallout 3's escort AI wasn't THIS bad.

Dead Rising... Oh God, Dead Rising. EVERY escort character in that game.

Also, Silent Hill 4: The Room. The latter half of the game is one long escort mission. Granted, your escort can't die during gameplay, but if she takes too much damage or if you leave her alone for too long she has a higher chance of dying during the final boss fight, resulting in a bad ending (you'll still beat the game and all, but yeah).

LOL - fair point. A non-standard example, but a good one :)
