I'm curious is anyone else out in the world excited about Suda51 and Grasshopper Manufacture's new game Killer is Dead?

I'm a huge fan of Suda's games, killer7 being one of my all time favorites. Though I know there can be wary attention due to his last two games (Shadows of the Damned and Lollipop Chainsaw), both I enjoyed but I can't get that feeling of "climate control" due to him working with others.

However, the trailer for Killer is Dead, though it doesn't give much information about what the game is about, gives off the same impression as killer7 and No More Heroes. I'm hoping it follows along those insane and metaphorical story lines and introduces random moments that define the quirk of his games.

I'm wishing for another bat-shit crazy experience from Grasshopper. Does anyone else have an opinion on the matter?

I think the man is a one-trick pony. Ever play that Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked game? That was pretty mediocre, and well before he teamed with the other artistes and produced his latter "disappointments". Sometimes I think he just got lucky with killer7 and co. for reasons that cannot and will not be replicated over time. How long can you live off your glorious yet short-lived past?

I love Suda51, but the only games from him that have actually had appeal to me are the No More Heroes games. But this game looks fantastic to me as well. I'm pretty excited for it.

It should be in the same vein as Killer7 and NMH, since it's supposed to be a spiritual successor to them, and part of the "killer" series of games that those games also belonged to. It sounds like there's going to be a lot of the usual bonkers Suda stuff too, including an enemy that literally steals sound.

Some of the combat mechanics sound like they will be interesting. From the very little gameplay that has been shown so far it looks pretty smooth too.

You get to see some, and hear some interesting details in this interview:

Screw discussion of combat mechanics etc its a new "Killer game", just take my money so i can add it to the rest of my Goichi Suda game pile!

Dude is nutball deluxe batshit crazy and i LOVE his games even the "crappy ones" are fun, i own lollipop chainsaw and diabolical pitch and have actually played both of them more then once :p

On another note anyone ever played his Blood+ and Samurai Champloo games he made on the PS2, they where pretty damn good as well and i never see them brought up in suda game conversations.

The games of his that I have played/watched for the most part I've enjoyed. That one XBLA Black Sword thingy was absolute shit. NMH and SOTD are great though, and this looks pretty damn cool to be honest.
I also wish Killer7 would get released on PSN or something because I really want to play it and I've got no idea where my PS2 is right now.

I'm hyped!! I only played Lollipop Chainsaw and Shadow of the Damned, but they were damn brilliant! Although the control always feel a little sluggish.

Maybe I should try No more heroes too, soon.

I have mixed feelings about Suda51 and grasshopper games on one hand I love the crazy stuff they come up with and the art style they often employ but the gameplay usually leaves me cold sometimes everything else is enough to power me through despite the gameplay merely because its all so brilliant apart from that one important piece.

Lollipop Chainsaw was the last game I played and finished of his and it was a case of get through the terrible hack and slash parts to enjoy the character interactions and boss fight. I am interested in the new game announced whether I end up liking the game or not he always seems to bring something fresh to the table at least in comparison to the state of gaming in general and he dosent seem to be afraid of mixing things up and trying new IPs which I admire him for.

I am liking the look of that art. Why have I never heard of Killer7? Is it console only?
Yes. It's console only. But in terms of being well-known... Hmm. Well upon inspection it seems to have had a PS2 port.
But originally it was going to be a gamecube exclusive.

And personally, I've never come across a PS2 copy of it so... In effect maybe it still was.

I first learned of Suda51 back when I picked up Killer7 on a whim when I found it in a discount bin for like $5. Playing it, my mind had been blown away, not only was the art style incredibly different to anything I had played at that time, but the story and plot was incredibly cryptic and befuddling... and for me, completely engaging.

When I saw the first trailer for Killer is Dead, with Dvorak's New World Symphony playing over the top, I immediately knew I had to get this game. Although it is admittedly too early to tell for certain, but it feels like it's like Suda51 has just come back from a long, strange trip. After trying out different game styles and play mechanics, he is returning back to his earlier haunts and showing us what he has learned. A bit pompous, I know, but that's what I like about Suda's games: he's always has this unique flair to it and although they don't all meet the same level of greatness, it interesting to just watch his style expand, mutate and evolve.

I love that title. It sounds like something I'd come up with in high school.

I've only played their No More Heroes games, which I love, and I plan on getting this and at some point Lollipop Chainsaw. I really love Suda 51's style. It's like if you were to cross an anime and an old school video game with a Troma film and a David Lynch film.
