So even though summer should be here, a torrent of crappy weather is preventing me from going out and doing fun stuff in the sun. It's not just the Brits that are idly waiting for summer. Well, that, and the broken leg that'll keep me sitting on my ass for a while.

With all that free time, it's an excellent opportunity to get in some quality gaming. So I look at the release calendar and behold, it is slim pickings. Now, that is normal. There usually aren't that many high-profile releases during the summer months, but there really is nothing coming out that really interests me until halfway october.

So, I'm wondering what the hell I'm going to play. Then again, I do have a substantial backlog. Good a time as any to get started on that.

Anyway, what do you do during what I call The Great Summer Gaming Downtime?

Replay some old games?
Finally play those games you once bought, but never got around to?
Play whatever worthwhile titles come out during the following months and make due?
Go out to meet people and have sex with them? (not necessarily in that order)

Captha: patience, child
Truly, it know everything.

I'm going to play everything!

Really it depends what I'm in he mood for, right now I just want to play some easy stuff so I can just relax and don't have to think so I'm playing Monster Rancher 3 while catching up on my backlog of anime. I'll probably put in some old JRPGs one I get bored with that.

I'm hoping to finish some games I have owned for YEARS but have never finished. I'm playing pokemon blue right now.
finally sat down and learned all the controls/know how to space rangers 2 yesterday, been having an absolute blast with it all last night and today (i think i remember you saying you've played it before? maybe not, if so, disregard)

but yeah, 4 bucks very well spent so far.

(if you were the one I remember, you got any recommendations? any alliances I should make sure I have or ones that are worthless? any "get rich quick" schemes?)

OT:

Well I'm waiting for the glorious steam summer sale, i'm sure i'll pick up a few games cheap there, otherwise just crackin down on my back log and previous games that i'm itching to attack again

(space rangers 2 as mentioned)
witcher 2 (with all the new stuff, haven't quite finished it yet)
bulletstorm (wanna beat the whole campaign)
empire earth (campaign, never beat it all as a kid, was too hard at the time)
jedi academy (wanna kill rosh this time >:) )
i'm sure a few more will come up

Get cracking on that backlog that's been staring at me for the past several months, I mean, these games aren't going to play themselves.

I really need to finish some games on my DS as well, and stop being so lazy about it.

So far I have been playing the KotOR series a lot. I am deffinately going to play TOR when it goes f2p. I am thinking about trying borderlands, still not sure if I want to spend $20 on it or not. I need to play some WoW so that I get my moneys worth out of it. I don't know what else seeing as I don't have a lot of money to get new games with. I will probably be stuck replaying old games.

Nothing much. The heat up here makes playing anything a 1 hour affair at best.
I shouldn't even be on my PC right now but....dammit I need my fix!

Brace yourselves ...
Summer is Coming.

Sorry, I had to.

To answer your question, I'd finish games I have already purchased, and then make my way to other games I have nor tried yet.

Once my English exam is over on Wednesday I am going to sit down for one day of pure Day Z. And likely heavy drinking, given how well my English revision has been going so far. Also been thinking of doing a retrospective on AC2 (he says, as if he has an actual feature column).

But yeah, Day Z shall be my first port of call. And the rum. Obviously.

I've ordered FFXIII-2(IT WAS REALLY CHEAP!) and L.A Noire: Complete Edition. Should turn up tomorrow... If not I'll threaten the mailman. Shouldn't take over ten days for a game to show up!
After that I plan to replay some games I haven't played in a while. Deus Ex: HR and possibly The Saboteur.
Might get back to games I never finished, but that's pretty much just Yakuza 3 and Brütal Legend. Can't stand those games.

Also got the Ratchet & Clank HD Collection coming soon. :F

I am playing Majora's Mask for the first time on the Wii VC. I just beat Woodfall Temple. It was surprising challenging (in a good way) for a first dungeon.

Sadly I am not the one you thought I was. The only thing I know about SR2 is that it's sold on GOG with it's expansion.
ah musta just been from the same thread, maybe it was freespace 2 I was thinking of relating to you?

I guess I will also add in alpha protocol and perhaps freespace 2, if i do acquire it anytime soon.

I'm stuck doing a full summer semester of classes at my university. Trying to get through RAGE and Dead Island in my spare time, but a lot of that is also going towards Dota 2, since my gf is addicted to it right now, which never ends :(.

I have a HUGE backlog of games on steam (damn you steam sales and humble bundles!!!) which I will probably never get around to playing since I always seem to get stuck on either huge RPGs which take hundreds of hours, or multiplayer games that are infinite.

I think I remember the snow temple giving me nightmares because it was really hard. Good Luck. That's a great game :)

OP, if you get the same kind of crappy weather in the summer that I do (thunderstorms, thunderstorms everywhere), I can't recommend the various Elder Scrolls games enough. There's nothing better than having a storm raging both outside your house and in your videogame. Morrowind in particular has good weather effects.

As for what I actually play the most, same thing I always play the most: multiplayer FPSs. My main three are currently TF2, Battlefront 2 and Battlefield 2, in that order. I try to find time for other games, too, but FPSs have the virtue of taking a relatively small amount of time for a satisfying and complete experiences.

Persona 4 for the PS2.

Take an 80+ hour long game with extensive friendship and creature capture elements (à la, Pokemon) and you have yourself an excellent, if not perfect, JRPG.

So, yeah, that. It should take you a good chunk of your summer to complete. Willing you can find a copy.
