I just picked up Mirrors edge for 50p from GAME (I had a couple quid on my reward card), which has got to be worth it for any game really, but this one isn't even bad.

So tell me escapists, what have you bought because you had a little bit of change left over from lunch and been surprised by?

I picked up final fantasy III for 5 bucks from gamestop. Spend over 40 hours in that game.

SiN package, both the original and Episode 1 are quite entertaining. Too bad I haven't finished either one because my computer's been acting up.

Also, do games you "Borrow"[footnote]and never get around to returning[/footnote] count? if so, definitely.

Space Empires IV, found a second hand copy ages back and love the damned thing.

Sword of the Stars I picked up relatively cheep and have practically worshiped ever since... ..except when it mars-dumps me, which it dose a lot with one of the mods I like.

Oh and Legacy of Kane: Soul Reaver, FUCK ME that's a good game.

Deadly Premonition. $20.

It's got really funny, sharp dialogue. Shitty combat, but it's not the focus of the game, so who cares?

King's Bounty: The Legend and King's Bounty: Armored Princess

Picked em both up for around $5 awhile back. Haven't even touched Armored Princess yet, but according to STEAM I've already thrown around 75 hours into the first game alone and I haven't even beaten it yet. That's insane! Great game too, obviously, or I wouldn't have thrown so much time into it.

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (5 euro, my favorite game)
Zax, The Alien Hunter (3rd person, birds eye shooter. Colourful and pretty nice at the time)
Worms Blast (Worms spin-off where you must destroy coloured blocks while on water. With wacky worms weapons)

I still keep an eye for cheap games, in case there are hidden gems.

the orange box. heard from friend that portal was pretty fun, found it a bargain bin for $8 the next day, was pleasantly surprised to say the least. I just recently found Dead Space for $10 at the movie store, and loved it. same story with the legend of Zelda:OOT, except I already new that I loved it

Bioshock and Splinter Cell. I got both on one of those ridiculously cheap Steam deals for under £5 each.

Psychonauts, actually. Cost me £1 on a steam sale a long while ago. Awesome diologue, really funny, combat is okay, and the -only- thing I didn't like about the game was the last level... Never made me think of meat circuses the same way again :(.

I'm going to add some counterweight to this thread and say "no". No i have not bought a coalcrusted diamond. I have payed full price for all the games i actually like.
I did however try my luck at picking up HALO 3 for about 12 euro. Since i said no to start with, you can probably guess my luck.

Painkiller, Hitman: Blood Money

Got 'em for around $10 each (I think)
Didnt expect much from Painkiller but LOVED it, and got Hitman:Blood Money since I had never played anything from the Hitman series and thought it was a good enough time to try it out. Good stealth game.

Might look better if I ever got the 360 version, but I got the cheap xbox original (before I had a 360)
