Howdy Escapist peoples!
This topic may exist out there already, but I'm just looking for some suggestions, as well as opening up a general discussion on the subject. I haven't seen anything lately, so here goes!
Occasionally my boyfriend and I travel to my brothers on weekends to hang out. The four of us (Brother and his fiance) are all quite nerdy and love a good geeky board game to play when we hang out. We used to play D&D but as schedules don't allow for regular visits, we've put it on the back burner for the time being.
Mostly we have Munchkin with some expansions (of course), Guillotine (excellent, fun, short), Zombies! (were kinda disappointed with that one...fun, but pretty low-key and slow), Apples to Apples and Quelf (really weird but occasionally hilarious...great drinking game), the last two of which aren't really all that particularly geeky but we do play them occasionally.
So, any suggestions? What do you play regularly? With how many and how much was it? Are you more of a casual player, or do you really like long, in-depth games?
I'll put it out there that Guillotine was a great surprise for us...we picked it up randomly at PAX East when we wanted something to do while sitting for a bit. At $15 it was an easy price to swallow, and turned out really fun and easy to play. It's great for just a couple people or more, and can be played easily just about anywhere. Each game only lasts maybe 15-20 minutes or so, but you can easily play round after round without getting too tired of it. I highly recommend it for a quick, casual game.
