Hi there, didn't see you there, would you like a beer?, oh you dont drink? sorry, did you want some Codeine instead?

Anyway, as you all know,
- guy meets girl,
- guy says nice thing about girl,
- girl falls in love with guy
- and guy looks at his watch

but when it goes further then just looking at your watch and you get married, what happens?,
- girl takes guys surname
- girl uses guys bank cards

isn't that romantic?

but what I ask you Menscapist's and Ladyscapist's is that, is that what you want, to the guyscapists, when you meet a girl you truely love, do you want her to take your name?
and Ladyscapist, are you ok with having to change your surname for the guy you love?

I think its the ultimate form of loving expression, changing your name for someone, but what do you people think?

I dunno really. I'd be kinda pissed if I had to take his name, but mainly because it's be a hassle. I don't have any problem with it on principle or anything

*Insert hilarious sexist joke here (or not)*

I think it should be a choice to take your husband's surname , if you ever get married.

Never got the appeal of it, quite frankly.

I'd only take her name if she has some extreme name, like one of these.

Unless they were really against it, I would expect whoever to take my surname, if only for the fact that it's the done/traditional thing.

Hell, my surname sounds like an illness, so I wouldn't hesitate to take their name. Unless it was somehow miraculously worse!

I don't give a shit about taking his name. There are more important things to argue about in a marriage.

Don't see the point of marriage, but OT I wouldn't mind, a name's a name. Not going to change your life in any major way so not sure why it matters, regardlss of it being "tradition", functionality/practicality > tradition anyday.

OMG I'VE GT MY HUSBANDS SURNAME, I'M SO HAPPY!!:D:D:D:D

Great, now how will that help get you out of the £20,000 hole you've dug financing the entire wedding?

can a guy take a girls surname, just a curious question?
it would just give a lot of opportunities, and would be a whole new reason to marry someone :p
to be more serious, I see no reason why a guy can not take a girls name.

Taking your husband's name is dead simple -- in fact, in some states, it happens automatically when you get married. Whether or not you choose to use that name -- on your checks, bank account, etc. -- is up to you, but legally, your last name is his.

Now, getting your original name back, should you ever choose to, that is where the hassle begins. You'd think it would be the other way around, really.

I had actually always hoped that I'd be able to take my wife's name (if I ever get so lucky as to find a girl who wants to marry me) when we get married. Part of me likes the sort of progressive reversal, where instead of a traditionally patriarchal name taking, things get mixed up a bit. And part of me doesn't want my kids to have to listen to all the stupid enuindic jokes because their last name is "Johnson". Really though, I just don't feel any attachment to my last name, it's just a name, I don't suspect I'll miss it much.
