Sorry if this has been suggestificated before chaps, and even if it has been a re-suggest couldn't hurt surely.

Anyway, as I was recently thinking, as I fired a launch pod from an apc, hurtling skywards, then screaming back down onto the enemy titan, ready to attack its core and win the game (incidentally I managed to land on a demopack and got instantly blown back to last sunday) on BF 2142, I thought "Why am I the only one trying this? Why am I endlessly hurling myself fruitlessly against their defences while my team is off playing silly buggers in dropships? In short, where is the teamwork?" At this point my internet died and I put the thought behind me. However it resurfaced, as such thoughts are likely to, and on its third incarnation it occurred to me that I do in fact know a large quantity of gamers who group socially in one place and know each other and aren't all (well, mostly aren't all. I can't vouch for some of you *hairy eyeball*) Typical Unpleasant Online Scumbags. (TUOS)

So, in short, who's up for a game? Any game? Why don't we game together? We have RPs, we laugh at each other, we argue and mock each other's logic or lack thereof, we're on a gaming site, more to the point, but I've yet to see the escapist forumers make any decided effort to take the escapist into actual gaming. Which I think should change. Together we would have a balanced team of intelligent, tactically aware players who are actually capable of coherently talking to each, other, so why the hell haven't we taken over the gaming world yet I ask you?

Thoughts?

Any game. My example was Battlefield 2142, but I'm talking about conquering the whole gaming universe here...

Theoretically a good idea. In practice.. well, problem No.1 arises with the diversity in location's of the Escapists forum goers, and the ping related issues that go with it, and indeed timezones. Then there's the difference in game tastes. Not everyone is going to want to play the same games, and when you find enough people who want to play a game, problem 1 rears its head.
Still, if it can work, it would be cool.

A zerg rush on all games, as per ordered by the escapist forums. Yes, I am definately liking the idea.

My computer's worthless for more recent games, but I got CoD4 and Halo 3 for Live, if that helps.

Well that, problem had occurred to me, but more along the lines of timezones than ping... yeah, that would be something of a thorn in the side.

For a start, we have both http://steamcommunity.com/groups/Escapist - for the main magazine, and http://steamcommunity.com/groups/3scapism - for the community. Both are worth a sign-up, although there's more chance that you'll find people who actually remember you from the forums in the latter.

I'm sure we could organise some sort of combined community effort on one of the games sometime. I'm a BF2 man myself, however, and I've even uninstalled that in favour of the Orange Box collection.

As far as I know, the one game that most PC-owners seem to have is an iteration of Counter-Strike, namely CSS. This may just be an assumption, but most gamers I know have it. I don't like the game very much, but with a good bunch of players it can be alot of fun.

I'm all for a clan that doesn't specify it's scope by genre or even platform. We will conquer them all regardless!
One question though: What would the tag be?

Hmmmn, a tag...

Well escapist could be played on in lots of ways I guess. Nerdy computer reference with 'Esc' perhaps... Actually I can't think of any others. Any strokes of genius floating about out there?

Incidentally, I've been tempted by BF2, and wouldn't be averse to picking it up... is it worth it?

It does and I have the same problem, it can't even run KOTOR.

Now all we have to do is figure out when everyone's online.
Quick, get the timezone converters. My connection is not only a bit rubbish but also in the Great Down Under, so any game that requires twitch or smooth play is not something I can do.
I'm up for Defcon, though.
