I was talking with my friend a few days ago about video games, and I mentioned that Team Fortress 2 was my favorite online FPS out there. My friend's response was that "TF2 is a trash game. I wish I had never spent money on it, to be honest." Seeing as I had just told him it was one of my favorite games not 2 seconds before, this pissed me off quite a bit. He went on to say that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has better multiplayer, and a minor argument ensued. If you haven't played one or both of these games, don't flame me for what I say about them. I'll try to be brief:
My points:
-Team Fortress 2 has a good sense of humor about it.
-Team Fortress 2 is much simpler to pick up, but more difficult to master.
-Team Fortress 2's multiplayer crowd tends to be (but isn't always) less douche-baggish.
-Team Fortress 2 is for the most part balanced between the classes.
-The creators of Modern Warfare 2 most likely laughed their asses off when asked if they were going to make the online multiplayer fair and balanced. The strategies that are considered noobish aren't considered that because they're bad, but far, far too good and kick most anything ass.
-While Modern Warfare 2 has a lot of variety, it's not REALLY that varied at all. All of the guns do pretty much the same thing as every other gun in that same class of weapons. If you look at it that way, there's five types of primary weapon, and 4 types of secondary. That's not that varied at all.
His points:
-Team Fortress 2 has cartoony graphics. (In his own words, "If I load up a shooter, I don't wanna' see a cartoon.")
-Modern Warfare 2 has a lot more variety. (Counterpoint above)
-Team Fortress 2 has 3 classes whose sole purpose is to pretty much annoy the shit out of anyone and everyone they come across (The Spy, the Sniper, and the Engineer).
Personally, I think my arguments make a better case, but there's obviously some bias on my part. Let me just state that everything written here was actually somewhere in the actual argument I had, although may have a bit exaggerated. I did my best to avoid exaggeration, but this argument was a few days ago and my memory's not the greatest. Post your opinions, and please don't flame.
EDIT: My friend plays MW2 on the XBox360 and plays TF2 on the computer. The XBox360/PS3 versions of TF2 do not factor into this.
