Hi everyone, about two months ago I started collecting figurines from movies and games that I love so that I have a simple physical object that I can appreciate and pose on my desk. There is just a simple childlike glee arranging different figures from different franchises together.

Even more recently, I downloaded steam and acquired a few Valve titles. Team Fortress 2 quickly became an addiction so naturally I got the two figures associated with this franchise; the Demoman and the Pyro. They are gorgeous looking, I absolutely love arranging them in stances reflecting their character and glancing at them whenever I choose their respective class when I am playing Team Fortress.

A little later, I began thinking about making a weekly web comic or something with them like the ALIEN LOVES PREDATOR strip ( http://alienlovespredator.com/ ). I could stage scenarios with them in their own universe interacting with one another at their base like a 'behind the scenes' set up. Alternatively, I could have them as a simple collectible living on my desk; navigating my room and interacting with other items (think Toy Story). The second one would probably be the better bet as I could effectively do 'Meet the...' unboxing when the next figure comes out which I believe is the Heavy and then do this for every subsequent figure.

However, my biggest problem is simply how to start it, should it be a website of its own under my control or should I try contacting Valve or a related comic website and offer to do this but I think it would be incredibly unlikely that I'd even get a response. Can branded items like my Xbox 360 or Samsung TV feature in the background in such a thing or would that be grounds for suing or infringement or something along those lines.

I know this is silly but I think it would be a fun thing to do over the summer and possibly beyond so Escapists, can you help me with any of this. Any guidance or advice for this sort of thing would be greatly appreciated and if not, have you ever thought of doing something similar to this like an internet series or web comic. Whether this takes off or not, thanks for your input.

TL;DR - I want to start a web comic with Team Fortress figure but I have concerns with how to start, contacting Valve/comic websites, other branded objects appearing in the comic etc so I'm asking for advice on these matters.

I have zero knowledge about these things but I think that if it doesn't get popular no one is going to bother you, if it does though it's more likely that they are going to encourage you to continue generating publicity rather than suing you.

If you are really nervous about it you should contact people who are already doing this type of webcomic for advice.

Eh, Valve is pretty loose about people making fan videos/art/comics about their games. Unless you're doing a lot of advertising and actually pulling in money from what you post, I don't see why they'd go after you. It's just basically fanart. I've seen many continual strips on Deviantart.com, so if you can't find anywhere else to publish you can just start there. Try friending other TF2 fans you find on there, find the communities to dig your roots into.

And if you're doing it as fanart and not for profit, then other copyrights are fine as well.
