Hi Guys

I have posted this as I wasn't sure where else to go... I have spent an hour talking to "EA Tech Support" who have suggested things like changing passwords and re-starting my computer multiple times which hasn't helped.

Ok so the other day I had a desire to go back and play the Mass Effect trilogy. I had 3 but I didn't have digital copy's of 1 and 2 so I brought them in a pack off of steam

Mass Effect 1 works fine. I have just installed Mass Effect 2 Digital Deluxe edition. I brought the DDE because it was what came with the pack. I don't give a rats ass about the DLC and I couldn't care less if I cant access it I just want to play the game.

Anyway it installed fine. I got to start up and the intro movies play fine and then I get the red screen with the mass effect logo on it saying press any button to continue. I do that and then I get a blue screen saying "welcome to the Cerberus network etc etc you need to create or log in to the EA account and input your Cerberus codes" and there are two buttons, continue and cancel.

Regardless of if I push continue or cancel the game then freezes on a blue screen with the EA logo in the background and the words "please wait" in white in the bottom right hand corner and it gets stuck from there.

All the other forums go on about how Cerberus has shut down and the "two computers on the main menu being open or closed to show connection. I cant even get to the main menu because I cant get past the Fu#@$&^% "continue or cancel" screen

Does anyone know a work around for this. Also if I purchased the "vanilla" version of ME2 does anyone know if I would have the same problems because as I said I couldn't care less for the DLC I just want to play the original

Any help is appreciated

EA like to blame hardware for this kind of issue, theres one here about BSOD which I appreciate is slightly different from yours.: http://answers.ea.com/t5/Mass-Effect-2/Blue-Screen-Crash-on-Start-up-ME2/td-p/1029006

Theres another thread on Bioware with slightly more helpful suggestions (again, more about BSOD, but I was looking for graphics issues), but it's not clear if it was actually resolved:

I would say, make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date, and that your DirectX installation is recent.

Edit 1: You might want to try running the application as administrator.

Hi Metailurus

First of all thanks for your input

Yeah I've checked all the specs and DirectX and my Graphics card is all up to date. I've recently purchased a new computer so Ive tried running it as administrator and in compatibility mode for Vista and XP with no luck.

The initial start up seems fine that's why I thought something might have been blocking the internet connection but all I can think of is the Firewall or the Anti Virus.
