Right, I have thought about putting this thread up to see what bothers people the most in the world, and recently in my life I actually came across it.

First off let me say, I hate people who are homophobic, I hate it even more when people like to hide behind something, some flimsy excuse to shut out their homophobia rather than straight up just admitting it.

This story is rather long so spoiler'd to be safe.
Now, I was in school having a lively discussion, as usual. Something to pass the time, when upon someone in the group announces the fact how homosexuality is wrong. He flat out said it was wrong and against God. This was the first ever time, he had ever shown any signs that he was religious, a good number of people heard this, so I decided to challenge him. He began to quote the bible, now I myself am not religious however this person failed to realize I had taken a subject here which studies the existence of God among other things (I don't know what Americans call it, I think it's philosophy, but not 100% on that.) so I decided to check why he felt this way, where upon he quotes Leviticus (A part where quite a few archaic rules were placed, which now isn't followed withing the religion. To give you an idea Leviticus talks about how men are not allowed to sit on the chair of a woman who may have been on her time of the month. I know it's a bit strange looking back at how they thought.) So I brought it up with a followup question, "Do you follow all of the bible to the letter?" He replied "Yes." He was wearing a mix of fabrics (not allowed to mix cotton and wool when wearing clothes.) I confronted him on this, he continued to say how being gay was wrong, after a while I stopped because I was getting nowhere. Later he caught up with me and asked why I was so passionate defending Homosexuality, I had to think about it somewhat, but I just said it was the right thing to do. However I didn't know why I did, I mean I myself am not homosexual and do get annoyed when people can be a bit oversensitive to homosexuality. The next day in school I found out he spread a rumor that I was gay, it got to a girl I was interested in, and people now think I gay even when I say I'm not. All because of this one guy. It started with him, and then it spread. So yeah. I was extremely pissed with him. EDIT: I am 15, more and more people know I'm not gay but some still do. I am not annoyed about being called gay, because I have nothing against homosexuals, it was just I was interested in the girl, and this spoiled my chances somewhat.

So what just made you thing, "How can people be like this?"

EDIT: Changing title, it's badly worded. Also, losing faith in humanity as a whole is pretty stupid, I do agree with that. I did post below but this is more of something people can do that makes you wonder how could someone do that.

Seeing how animal pure-breeding is happening here in SA with very small populations (inbreeding happens A LOT) while the animal shelters are crawling with too many animals to handle... that I find to be a problem. One that makes me uneasy.

American politics, too mad at the moment. 'nuff said.

My own country's politics. Being corrupt is practically a requirement to get in to it these days.

I hate anyone that discriminates against others just because they're different, whether that be your sex, identity, race or sexuality. These people should look in the mirror and see just how different they are themselves.

Either way, I've pretty much given up on looking for the positives in humanity, because I'm a misanthropist and pretty much hate all humans. I hope that the universe just swallows itself and we all die, because we've fucked up this planet too much and life is shit.

I feel the same way. Well, probably closer to this:

but with less zeal. I really dislike discrimination. Well, at least when it's put in a serious context. I'm not going to spoil a joke or something. But A couple of months ago I was watching TV. There was some guy talking about...I forget what, but it was something like security and the cost of it. He talked some BS about how we needed security which made me mildly irritated because it was lots of nonsense strung together. Well until he finally said "In this day and age with rampant crime, burglary, shootings, homosexuality, drugs and prostitution."[footnote]I'm not claiming it's a quote but his words were really close to this.[/footnote] (emphasis mine). I lost it at that point. I instantly hated him.

Other than that: stupidity makes me lose faith in humanity. Mostly stupidity. There are lots of other factors, as well, stupidity seems to be the largest one. Another news related anecdotal example for that. First of all the news was about a sixteen year old girl who was killed (shot) by her boyfriend and the boyfriend committed suicide immediately after. Bear with me - it may cause your faith in humanity to slip, but it's not stupid yet. Now, let's first start with the fact that her boyfriend was like 30 (or late twenties at any rate). And everybody knew that and was OK with it. Well, I suppose that's not bad I know there are a lot of girls who go out with older guys, and 16 y.o. girls can and do have twenty-somethings as boyfriends. That's not the actual issue for me. The issue was that her boyfriend was a policeman. You know, one of the people that could find something wrong with dating an underage. Now throw into the mix the fact that other policemen knew as well and were cool with the whole situation. And they both have been going out for quite some time, it's not like they've gone on two dates.

Yeah, that was bad, I suppose. I don't know what will you think of me but I didn't find that as bad as the rest of the news story. Other policemen, you know - professionals, went to the scene of the crime to investigate. On of them tried to take the gun out of the hand of his dead colleague and managed to shoot himself. Non-fatal in the foot or something but seriously, how stupid can you be? It is a gun. There are actual rules for handling a gun safely. The police is trained to handle guns safely. The first assumption to make about a firearm (disregard the situation there) is that it is loaded and work under that assumption unless you are confident of the opposite. How do you fuck this up so badly? Not to mention that one of the first rules is to never point a gun at somebody unless you are sure you want to kill them. And there are several other rules that boil down to "WATCH WHERE YOU'RE POINTING THAT THING!"

It's more of that moment which makes you go. "My god how can people do this?" rather than the melodramatic loss of faith in humanity.

Most things that happen in the states make me sick.

Hmm... Should I make a list? Ehhh... its a pretty long list, so I'll just summarize.

Any time when someone decides to blame video games/movies for the behavior of someone rather than the atmosphere they are surrounded by, makes me sick.
Any time when someone will defend their "right" to be offensive to X group of people for Y reason, when that reason makes absolutely no sense, makes me sick.
Any time human suffering is being commercialized or people are making a profit from it, makes me sick.
Any time someone gets away with being a massive knob because they apologized/gave money to charity/lost a bit of money, makes me sick.

Generally, whenever someone (or a group of people) behaves completely irrationally and someone suffers because of it, makes me sick.

Whenever i wake up due to an alarm clock.

And animal torture, specifically cats.

And whenever someones religious teachings overrides thier sense of reason.

And the mere foreknowledge of another Call of Duty and Battlefield.

I could probably do more, but now im sick of writing this too.

I like how some posters here are saying how they are against discrimination, but then say they have lost faith in humanity. Thats a bit discriminatory in itself.

OT: Well thats damned bad luck. Kids will be kids i guess. And if the girl was put off of you just by a rumor, well that kind of says it all about her interest in you really. Harsh, but true.

It annoys me when people use anecdotal evidence to justify a dislike of humanity as a whole, but I wouldn't say it makes me sick of humanity (because then I'd be a hypocrite).

Also, serves you guys right for talking about lame subjects like gay marriage! Arguments on gay marriage and religion and stuff like that are mostly just an excuse for people to try to sound informed without doing any research of their own >:O

Well the first thing I can think of it when you see a table of friends sat together and they are all on phones texting other people, maybe I sound like an old man, but fuck that. I think it's lame and if I am in that situation I normally laugh out loud a little.

A perhaps fun way to get back at that person would be to confront him publicly and loudly and dramatically say something like... "-I'm sorry (persons name), we can't go on like this. This needs to stop. I love you to BUT only as a friend and I'd hoped you realized this by now. But since you clearly can't control your feelings for me anymore I think it would be best for both of us to not see each other anymore." :D

Anyway... I don't know if I have any particular example of real life experiences where someone have made me lose faith in humanity. The things you see that goes on in the rest of the world however...

Among the worst example I can think of right now would be the child witch hunting [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5klKretrsw&feature=channel_video_title] that goes on in Nigeria. Makes me pretty damn depressed :/.

Nothing really, because I know full well what humans are capable of. So I'm never surprised or "lose faith in humanity" when I read articles or hear stories of atrocities committed by humans, because I more or less expect that shit to happen.

Are you saying you hate those things because they happen in the States? Or you hate them in addition to the States? And why specifically the US? Do such things not happen in other countries as well?

It makes me wonder, how can any human want to hear about how bad its species is?

However, on topic. Well... never "lost faith" in humanity, I guess it's just a phase. As for your predicament at school, just role your eyes and say you're not. What ever you do don't get offended. Or reply with extreme sarcasm. Don't make the troll stronger.

"losing faith" in humanity or it making me sick doesn't really make any sense to me. Any sort of incident which bothers me doesn't make me feel like humanity's to blame; that would be a stupid generalization.

If you really felt like humanity was making you sick, you'd feel suicidal simply because you're a part of it.

I just hate humanity though I'm hypocritical myself for saying this, I think what we do to the world like killing the environment is a shame and that we're all gonna die one day for our actions.
Also I hate people who are plain stupid and act so idiotic that I wanna punch them and throw them in a hole.

I dunno, The threads on both Moviebobs latest video and the latest Jimquisition video both make me feel sick. I think it was someone declaring that homosexuality was a mental illness that did it. Oh, the fact that "White Knight" exists as a derogatory term. It both confuses AND sickens me.

Oh, and to inject socialism into this?

The fact that if the worlds richest 100 people all gave away half of their wealth poverty could be abolished within a year.
The fact that whilst writing this many children have died of a mixture of starvation, malaria, diahorrea... I am not even going to get into it. And that could be stopped. But noone cares.
World of Warcraft players sign away 10 pounds a month to play a rather boring (Be honest with yourself) game yet it is almost impossible to get someone to give 7 pounds a month to a charity.
To keep food prices up many nations burn excess food or recycle it into fertilizer/pig meal.
In an effort to make money, futures trading on staple food sources has directly led to the deaths of many thousands yet those responsible have not committed a crime.
It is not a crime to commit homeopathic fraud. By "Homeopathic Fraud" I mean claiming that a homeopathic remedy works better than a similarly administered placebo.
The man directly responsible for tens of thousands (If not hundreds of thousands) of deaths in Africa for claiming VITAMIN PILLS worked better than anti-retrovirals to treat HIV AIDS.

You know what?

I am done.
I would like to mention that
"gave away half of their wealth poverty could be abolished within a year."
isn't true, simply due to rules about how economic value works.

But I think I get what you mean. You don't want to see poverty abolished, you want to see hunger abolished, no?
