What do you think of this choice? Moffat said himself that he wants him to be "not Matt Smith" which I think will be really good. I can see him being a really dark Doctor!

Peter is a Scottish (yay!) actor who is 55 years old. Quite a big difference to Matt Smith!

I think he'll do well. Hopefully be a little different and they won't just be throwing pretty girls at him to fancy him all the time.
Can't help but be a little disappointed, was hoping for something a little more different. But I don't think with Moffat in charge that's gonna happen.

I'm pretty pleased - was between him and David Harewood for me.
Should be good to have someone a little older, and as you say, perhaps a slightly darker character.

I'm just pro-female Doctor. I think it's about time.
I realise that's a controversial opinion, and I'm not going to let my disappointment over that sour my opinion of the new Doctor.

I'm looking forward to seeing what direction he takes it in.

I'm hoping for a dark Doctor to be honest. And it looks like he could play that quite well.

But I don't mind the choice - he looks interesting and I can 'see' him being the Doctor, while I couldn't see Matt Smith at first. Good luck to him.

It's funny a bit, he played an ancient Roman on the show before (The Fires of Pompeii), as well as someone in Torchwood. I wonder if there'll be any in-universe nod to this.

I was hoping it would have been Rupert Grint...he would have been the youngest Doctor and a ginger which could have paved the way for the reveal that The Doctor was finally going to die for real (because regenerating as a ginger is the sign that a Time Lord's natural life-span is nearing its end).

Other than that...I have no idea who this actor is off the top of my head. Haven't seen any Dr. Who recently either...I look forward to catching it on netflix in a few years though.

A good choice, Peter Capaldi is good actor. It looks like after looking back to Troughton with Matt Smith, Moffat hes gone back to Hartnell/Pertwee era. I don't think he's going to be the Dark Dr that appears to be the popular thought but a more patriarchal Dr. My guess that new Dr will be calmer, slower and less sexaul than anything since the reboot.

Excellent news. When I heard Peter Capaldi was in the running I could not see anyone else in the role. There has to be at least one episode where he solves everything with hailing a tonne of abuse at the monsters
