Yes, I know Twilight threads have been done to death and beyond, but with the third (ugh, WHY?!) film premiering in about...30 minutes, I figured I might as well as gather some people who hate it.
I was convinced that all girls I go to school with are in LOVE with the series, until I read this review/rant( http://multimindtv.webs.com/apps/forums/topics/show/2915142-twilight-not-every-girl-loves-it-) written by a girl in my class.
Her review seems to emphasize that the series has received too much obsessive hype.

Now to my question.
What is your take on the HYPE Twilight receives? Not the series itself, but all the publicity it gets.

I'm actually looking forward to Eclipse coming out. New Moon might not have been a very good film, but dang it, it was funny as hell, and I'm expecting the same so-bad-it's-hilarious quality from Eclipse.

As for the hype, how can something that is beloved by so many people be overhyped?

I thought overhyped was when something had gotten such immense expectations that it couldn't possibly hope to achieve them, yet there's a huge demographic that loves Twilight.

Yeah, it's not a very good series by many's standards, including my own, but there are a lot of things that aren't flawless that still has cult followings. I mean, can anyone honestly look at Tron and think "This isn't campy at all"? Yet it's a cult film with a huge fanbase that is (finally) getting a sequel.

My opinion on the hype? Well, with how rarely I pay attention to pop culture and entertainment news I'd say it doesn't annoy me that much. However I did just find out yesterday that the third movie is coming out this week (didn't the second one just get released?!).

However, since I DO pay a lot of attention to the internet tubes, I do see a lot of twilight hate and it is very god damn annoying. The books really aren't that bad, jesus christ guys, stop picking on the mormon housewife just because she's richer than you.

Though overall I like the Twilight movies, their Rifftrax [http://www.rifftrax.com/rifftrax/twilight]versions are hilarious!

I just dislike how three bands I actually liked sold out to the movies. (Hint: Muse, Mew, Death Cab for Cutie)
It will probably spawn more fans of the bands, but these fans will be Twilight fans too. I do not wish to get thrown in the same boat as them.

I don't really care about the publicity it gets, I've seen maybe 4 or 5 trailers at most while watching tv or in cinemas. I think enough people hate it so the hype isn't really that big.

A clique I don't know or associate with has found itself a new fad, good for them.

I, myself, do not much care for the hype Twilight has been getting. I dislike the series as a whole because I do not find the characters to have enough substance and tend to be a bit whiny.

I thought Twilight was pretty fun to watch for the so-bad-it's-funny value, but I found New Moon to be really boring. It was a bit disappointing after how fun the first one was to be honest. Pretty nice cinematography though.

I'll try to put this as sensitively as I can:

Teenage girls are dumb.

Now don't report me misunderstand me, I'm not saying that in order to like Twilight you need to be mentally challenged or something (we're talking about the HYPE here, not the series), but teenagers tend to be impulsive and shallow and into bright/shiny objects, so a concept like "sexy vampire sweeps unpopular girl off her feet" gets eaten up without a second thought (literally).

I may be dating myself here, but I experienced the same phenomena back in high school when Titanic came out. I had (girl)friends in my class who saw it in the theater 12, 14, and even 20 times (by their own admission), for no other reason than they found Leonardo DiCaprio to be hot. That's it. I asked them what they thought about the plot or the special effects, and their response was usually "Who cares? Leo is amazing."

So there it is. James Cameron's most successful movie (pre-2009) wasn't because of his script or his vision or his budget, it was because of that wonderful chemical process known as puberty that makes teenage girls insane.

Twilight benefits from the very same process.
