I just finished Mass Effect 3 and apart from the ending I think most people can agree,
that it was a good game and the franchise itself is very good (for me its astonishing).
But because of that, I am facing the problem right now, that most games seem now too shallow in
showing their world and how they work. FF XIII for example has developed an interesting world, but I cant completely immerse myself in it. You just read most things in a log instead of experiencing first hand. Another example, other Sequels seem so losely connected to their predecessor and I miss the way of one complete world that i can move around in. Most of the time, sequels are just losely connected to each other.

In Short: Do you have the feeling in comparison to in depth games like Mass Effect, that most games are shallow and their worlds seem shallow and empty?
Do you want more background for your games and a story that can flow fluently from one part to the next? Or is that something that you dont necessarily care for?

Nope. I had the opposite problem. I booted up ME for the first time and went "Ah a ship, cool. Colonies, yes you have to have colonies. Right aliens, makes sense. Oh who's that dude - a Spectre? Oh right the secret police guys, yep everything lines up. Now when does he die? Oh he died, damn that was early." and so on and so forth. ME didn't bring anything new to the table for me. You had the warrior race, the weird looking guys (forgot the name, the ones that tell what the emotion they try to convey is), the space Jews, space bugs and space elves. Well, essentially space elves.

I suppose the most "innovative" and "fascinating" moment was when it turned out the ship was sentient and was from a race of other ships. Well, yes, I will lie if I say it didn't surprise me - the level of surprise was the same as when I find my keys in another pocket.

You will have to elaborat - what do you mean by "a story that can flow fluently from one part to the next"? But I like background. I love background. I love the Elder Scrolls series for all the background it has.

No, I feel Mass Effect was incredibly bland and shallow setting compared to alot of other games I've played.

Nah I don't miss it really, but I do wish there were more games with this kind of depth in its universe and attention to detail.

No. If I want a Mass Effect game experience, I play Mass Effect. I don't let my opinion of one series temper another, at least on the storytelling front.

Meh, I go to different games for different things. I've only played the first Mass Effect, and found it great fun, but I didn't enjoy it quite enough for me to buy any of the sequels. I'll happily admit that I admired the amount of detail that went into the game though.

forgive me for not reading anythign here but Im trying to avoid Mass effect related stuff

I will say, I love mass effect (and Bioware RPG's) because it simulates the feel of going on an epic adventure

mainly in that you ahve your "action" and all those dramatic events..but you also have "down time" to talk and get to know the people your fighting alongside
