Heyoooooo,
Well it seems my pretentious ass has returned to The Escapist.
You may all now shower me with love, affection and gifts....preferably gifts from Steam.

Either way, staying on topic, I'm here to discuss with you all the many implications of an afterlife.
What would it be like?
Is there one at all?
What version would you consider paradise and what one would you consider hell or purgatory?

Now we can all act like a gaggling bunch of ninnies and start a pointless debate about the existence of an afterlife, but we're above that right...?

[HEADING=1]RIGHT!?![/HEADING]

No seriously guys, here me out.
What I'm here to ask is just a simple question.

[HEADING=1] Long Story Short[/HEADING]

[HEADING=2]Say for instance that an afterlife did exist! (No one leave dammit!!)

So if you did wind up in an afterlife, what sort of afterlife do you think would be the best?

Or what is your personal favorite afterlife?

And what do you think is the worst afterlife in your opinion?
[/HEADING]

(NOTE: It can be an afterlife from any religion or any popular media of any sorts, Such as: Anime, Movie, Tv Show, Video Game, Religion or Tom Cruises Asshole)

[HEADING=2]Fire away guys!![/HEADING]

And try not to start any debates for the sake of our sanity...Either way I'll still love you guys :D

My favorite version of the afterlife is similar to that creepy forest in The Nightmare Before Christmas, but minus the creepy part. Basically a bunch of portals to different alternate (fictional) worlds where I can live whatever kind of life I want whenever I want.

Example: I feel like being a super hero today. ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

I once read a great teenage fiction book named <url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Elsewhere-Gabrielle-Zevin/dp/074757720X>Elsewhere, which is a story about the following fantasy afterlife:
Once you die you go to a land just like Earth, where you proceed to age backwards until you are a newborn baby again, at which point you get reborn as a new person.
I like that idea of afterlife.

My least favourite afterlife is the one where I get tormented by devils for eternity simply because I didn't believe in some omniscient cloud that a bunch of people living in caves once wrote about.

As an agnostic nihilist, I really have a hard time thinking of any concrete "afterlife".

I suppose I won't be a stick in the mud, though...

I've always liked the thoughts of either a personal Heaven or reincarnation. I have a hard time imagining what... well, being dead is like, but it's something that intrigues me. The concept of essentially body-hopping around as time moves on certainly appeals to me, even if it leaves me with no knowledge of my previous body.

I really find it difficult to wrap my head around the concept of non-existence though, so I have to say that it would simultaneously be my favorite and least favorite "afterlife". The concept of just being nothing. Of not existing. Having no thought. No needs. Nothing. Being... nothing.

I'm a Catholic, but I always found Valhalla and the many variations thereof to be one heck of an afterlife. What's not to like about eating, drinking and having fun all day, only to then go and beat the crud out of your pals, get revived and do it all over again?

There will be no rest when i'm dead.

I'm planning on sticking round as a ghost and doing some haunting.

My idea is the afterlife is full of the people I hated in high school and my previous jobs, so I can spend eternity kicking the shit out of them.

It's been awhile my friend, glad to see you haven't left the Escapist after all. Also I regret getting Naruto Shippuden: Ninja Storm Generations and should of listened to your review on that game. It's terrible, and even the multiplayer is a cluster-mess up. Crap most people pick Sasuke (Susanoo version) and spam him like there was a 5 seconds to go timer.

OT: To me, the after life is way more then just being on top of clouds. It's like a whole new world but not like full of buildings and cool sights where you eat and feast. No, I think true paradise is something humans haven't came across or can never do so on Earth. It might be way more, but I wouldn't know. Still.. because I am a Christian, I think the best lies for me once I have lived as a good person (trying to). I could go into how Christians live but I simply wanted to answer the question instead.
Hehehe, I told you to wait till Ultimate Ninja Storm 3.
Thankfully it's coming out next spring.
And that means we'll get to use ZOMBIE MADARA!!

Either way I like that idea of an afterlife.

My Personal Favorite Idea of an Afterlife would probably be something along the lines of LIMBO, from both the Christian and Game like sense.

Why? Simply because LIMBO was where someone went to face their flaws and sins and convictions they either weren't willing to admit, embraced blindly or never knew they had and the game LIMBO displayed it as best as possible where one went to face their fears and Journey onwards, whether to repeat it, or finally find solace at the end of their journey.

My most hated idea of of an afterlife would be the Ancient Egyptian afterlife.
Why?
Because FUCK YOU!! You hierarchical and pious bunch of dipshits!!
Even if you were a good soul, you could not get to paradise if you didn't mean certain requirements, like a proper mummification, or you were judged unfairly by Shu who had an unrealistically sense of justice of which to weigh you by, meaning your heart had to be lighter than a metaphorical feather.

So yeah, even if you were a good person but didn't make the journey properly, you got eaten by a demon named Ammit. And that's just trying to get to HEAVEN!!

So without a doubt I take pride in saying.

Definitely an afterlife full of fun if you ask me

So... many.... references.

OT: Since I've never actually put much thought into it, my default idea of an afterlife is the Christian one, but that's not fun at all,
so I'm making one up right here, right now, for you...

The afterlife is one giant realm, I'll call it the Omega realm, cause I'm unoriginal like that. This is a realm with floating cities made of candy and gold. The trees limbs are actually hands and they play rock, paper, scissors with each other. The preferred method of transportation is by cat bus.

Here you are a spirit, and so you have the memories not just of your recent life, but all of your past lives before then. Your experience in this realm is entirely dependent on how much of a dick you were over the course of all those lives combined
(not just the most recent one), If you are an overall good person, you get a pleasant afterlife, which is basically your own life except without as much stress and the ability to go drinking with *insert awesome person here*.

In short, I guess the good afterlife is a trip to Disney World, minus all the creepy old people, and more suited to adults.

Whatever it is, I hope to God that time is not a perceivable thing there. The best thing I can imagine, the very best-est thing, lasting for even fifty years, would drive me balls to the wall insane by the end of it and become my own personal hell. Never-mind eternity.

In that vein, kinda hoping for more of an 'absorbed into the universal consciousness existing outside of time and space' sort of thing.

If that doesn't work out, at least let me haunt people here. Till all the humans die, that would be some quality trolling, then just leave me to my insanity.

Watch the movie "Invention of Lying". When a guy on a planet where people can't lie learns to lie, he decides to do good by making people believe in a guy in the sky who will punish you if you are bad, but reward you with a villa in the afterlife if you are good.

People literally stop living for today, become lazy bums, and don't do shit, expecting the villa in the afterlife.

I'd want an afterlife that didn't last forever.

A little something to look back on the good times and be able to say "that was a good life" would be great.

But I seriously don't want to live forever.

I believe things only have value because they're finite. If there's an immortal afterlife then everything would lose value. Why would I care about anything? I've got eternity anyway, so what's there to lose?

Care about anything material? I've got infinite time to get it back or get a new one if that's impossible. If I managed to get it once I'll be able to get it again, eventually.
Care about my health? I've got eternity, it's not like I can die. Even if I grow fat and out of shape I've got infinite time to get back into shape anyway.
Care about other people? It's the afterlife and I'm there for all time. There'll always be new people along if there's something I don't like about the ones I'm currently associating with.

Why would anything matter to an immortal? He's incapable of losing anything and thus appreciating anything.

For me, the greatest possible afterlife is no afterlife. The worst possible afterlife is every single afterlife.

I don't want to live forever. I want to die and look back on a good life, eventually.

Well, I like to think the paradise like this:
Just to live again your happiest moments of your life over and over again.
And ethernal sleep with no beggining or end, to be with your family, your friends, your wife, your childrens together to happy moments you had in you life that you wish this moments would never end. THIS is my paradise for me.
