I know this is a problem from the very dawn of time and might be familiar to most people who have played C&C: Red Alert on the PC at some point, but I seem to be having issues with my scroll rate and have tried everything I can search for and think of to fix it, to no avail.

Basically, the scroll rate is far too sensitive and makes the game pretty much unplayable. I have read about enabling back buffer on the video settings to fix it, tried it, didn't work. I tried doing this THEN re-installing it...didn't work either. Patched it...guess what? Didn't work. I have tried almost everything I can think of and i'm getting nowhere with it.

The most annoying aspect of this was that, a few months ago, this wasn't even a problem. I just decided one day last week to play Red Alert over LAN with a mate, and the problem arose out of the blue!

Does anyone know any other way of getting past this annoying little problem, or experienced it themselves? I would be extremely grateful for any help I can get on the matter.

For reference, I am running it on Windows Vista as part of The First Decade collection.

I had this problem with Warcraft 2, but I run Red Alert through DOSbox, and haven't had this issue. Maybe it's a hardware thing? Try running it with DOSbox? (I'm not sure if you can with the FD version.) ..That's my only idea :x

Works fine on my computer, never noticed any scroll problems.

According to a 12 year RTS pro gamer, you shouldn't be scrolling anyway, you should be clicking the mini map to get around.

I had the same problem and never managed to fix it, but as the above poster pointed out, clicking in the minimap is more convenient even with normal scroll speeds.

*ahem*

Hit Escape during the game. Click on the button "Game Options".

Notice how there is a slider labelled "Scroll Speed"?

I must recommended dosbox as well. Perhaps theres an internal options in the option menu to reduce scroll rate? No avail?

Did you use the un-official patch 1.002 for the first decade? Fixes a lot of things that don't work properly.
