There comes a point in one?s life where they have seen the same debate enough times, heard everything that can be heard about a subject, and finally reach a point where they just absolutely positively stop giving a crap. This whole gender issues thing that has been raging across the internet for some time I believe has finally become such a thing for me personally: we have celebrities weighing in, we have people in relative positions of power weighing in who can at a whim silence dissenters through intimidation, we have rabid miosygnists and misandrists acting like roaming bands of viking raiders burning whole peaceful communities to the ground by the mere discussion of their hyper-volatile issues.
And you know what? I just don?t care anymore.
I don?t care about the guy with the web comic strawmanning strawmanners, I don?t care about the guy with the web series posting a long ill-informed rant about ill-informed people, I don?t care about the narrow perceptions of reality everyone seems to have anymore. I don?t care about your feelings, your sensitivities, your political correctness, and largely everything about this stupid debate that seems to fester and rear its ugly head in every corner of my life. I can?t even enjoy a bloody internet gaming site because it?s become so embroiled in gender politics, I have no doubt the ?big names? only care because of how much traffic it gets them but everyone else? Short-sighted narrow mindedness.
I wish more people didn?t care because I?ve realized there?s a point that you start caring too much: when you get so angry over something that is fictional to the point that you force that to change because how dare they do something you dislike. I?ve seen self-proclaimed advocates for equality condemn sexism but then contradict themselves by making broad sweeping generalizations.
I?ve seen enough and I think it?s time I got my suitcase, put on my hat, and my coat and just quit. Instead of having meaningful discussions about things that actually need to change like healthcare or the wage gap, we?re constantly foaming at the mouth over opinions of some sleazy marketer and her band of doting defenders and rabid haters, we utterly lose our shit at the sight of an artist having a style that exaggerates the anatomy. We?ve become the very cesspool where creativity, free thought, expression, and all the other wonderful things about being sentient are so unceremoniously trampled upon in favor of vitriolic passionate insults about things that aren?t even really that important.
It?s only at this point do I understand that this divisive war of sorts has only come about because people care too much, they care too much about the opinions of sex negative feminist who wouldn?t have seen the light of day if not for the hate parade her needlessly venomous opinions stirred up, they care too much about some misoygnistic know-it-all who frankly can?t go five minutes without speaking out of his ass.
Well I don?t care anymore and I think you should stop caring too.
No one should be put on a pedestal nor should they be lynched for their views no matter how vile, but I don?t see that, and I see this utter garbage continuing to infest my life for the foreseeable future. MRAs, feminists, whatever you call yourselves ? I don?t care who you are or what you want but Jesus Christ just leave me and mine the hell out of it.

Call it a nitpick, but surely if you're so apathetic, you wouldn't be making a rather large speech about how apathetic you are. :p

I was going to read the OP and make a well written statement agreeing with him, but I just don't care enough to do it any more.

I have become apathetic about apathy.

Youve been suckered into the trap. People who care too much let themselves be consumed with "righteous" hatred. People who dont care at all are useless in resolving the conflict and to be frank "I dont care about your feelings" is hardly the place to start to reform a nice and caring community.

You dont have to choose between caring ALL or NOTHING. Care the right amount. Enough to know an issue needs resolving. But not enough to choose a side or a label and start screaming at the other side. Ironically by attempting to avoid being suckered into a "MY SIDE OR THEIRS" scenario youve created your own "ALL OR NOTHING" scenario to move into. Youve hardly helped yourself. Care the appropriate amount and declare not your labels but your thoughts and let people think what they will.

Look, man, I don't care. And I don't care if you care or not. I must however, show you how much I don't care by writing a long comment which takes me time and effort and makes me think and care consider the thing I don't care. But I am apathetic. No, I am not annoyed - if I was annoyed, would I really write a long ass reply saying I am not and trying to desperately hammer it in? No, of course I don't because I don't care. You believe me, right? You believe I'm apathetic to the whole issue. Please believe me I'M TELLING YOU PLEASE BELIEVE ME! Now, if I did care about it, I would also need your belief here but since I don't, your agreement is not needed. Still, I'm telling you I don't care, so you must believe me now.

/Amidoingitright?

Also, I actually don't care about some stuff. For some reason I neither read about them, nor do I willingly seek out information. And as such, I guess it's pure chance, but I don't know about the stuff I don't care and I don't need to tell others how no interest. I dunno - maybe OP has different definition of "apathy" if he knows so much about and has such strong opinions apathy(-nions?) about his issue of choice.

Comrade Richard, I find several of your statements to be hypocritical.

It's the term "political correctness" that bothers me in this sentence. That is a term its detractors vilify as an effort to convince others to self-censor through shame, but the thing is, when you use the word like that, you're doing exactly what you hate the term for doing: You're trying to convince the rest of us to self-censor out of shame of being called "politically correct."

You are also here raging against people who try to convince you you're wrong to care about things you don't while trying to tell us we're wrong to care about things we don't, though I admit that's less hypocritical than ironic.

Comrade Richard said:

And you complain about vicious insults while comparing a community to a cesspool that deliberately tries to destroy everything good about the human species.

What I'm saying here is, put your own house in order before you start criticizing someone else's.

No. I'm sorry, but no. I can't do that. If I see something that I think is wrong, and if I take no stand against it, then I am a coward who has betrayed his beliefs for fear of conflict. I have quite enough flaws in my life to be ashamed of without abandoning my principles. I would rather offend your desire not to hear me talk than to have to deal with the fact that I have been silent out of weakness; at least my conscience will let me sleep.

Is `LOOK HOW MUCH I DON'T CARE YOU GUYS` the next big thing?
Ok, you don't care.
Other people do.
These discussions are not going away.
If you don't care, keep your nose out of it.

I'm going to care about exactly what I want to care about, thank you very much. If you care about nothing, then just stay in bed all day or something..I don't know, get creative about doing nothing.

And if you don't care, then leave well enough alone. You're not enlightened, you're not the only sane man in a world of sheep, you are not the herald of a new age of human thought. You're just a person who apparently doesn't care much about stuff, and that's that, your decision. And you don't even seem to be practicing what you preach, since in all the verbal "I don't care" there's a lot of non-verbal "But I do care enough to think less of you if you do care".

Oh yeah, also, wondering how this has not been brought up yet:

While I might not go so far myself, I will say that it's hella boring tho.

I get what he means towards all the bloody sexism threads. It's been done to death and then some and it's STILL GOING ON! I just can't bring myself to open any of them, the entire thing has just gotten silly. Maybe not apathy really, it's just so overdone and boring I cannot be bothered.

Ok, new rule: If you're going into something actively looking for sexism, guess what? You ARE going to find it. Men and women are always going to have differences that's a fact so don't go and apply random sexism tags onto every little thing or uninstallthegameokbye. Properly sexist things should jump out at you regardless of whether you're looking for them.

DON'T fucking quote me to argue over this. I'll be damned if I get drawn into a sexist thread debate, they go against my entire existence!
