The Bastion: your favorite weapon combinations. (possible spoilers)

So I'm in the middle of my second playthrough in Bastion and, in addition to logging more hours playtime than a healthy person should, I've managed to fully upgrade all weapons. Now this leaves me with the tedious/awesome job of figuring out which 2 weapons go together best for my purposes. In my adventures, I always seem to come back to the hammer, its huge damage and shield charge for even hugey-er damage entice me so. Ahh good old hammer. The side arm is a harder choice though, do I choose the Mortar that I so enjoy and get murdered by flocks of birds? Or do I use my trust worthy Fang Repeater to coat the screen with flesh seeking darts, leaving myself vulnerable to the bigger beasties?

So what I want to know is... what is your favorite weapon combination and why. (bet you didn't see that question coming!)

Oh yeah almost forgot: feel free to toss in your favorite special move too. For me this would be the gel canister, not so much for effectiveness, I just love it.

I had to change up once I did my second playthrough with ALL the gods turned on. I had to get all the heavy hitters so I chose the fully upgraded hammer and mortar with my special being the grenade.
Having all gods on is really annoying.

I go with the pike and the mortar, always worked out perfectly for me

I always stayed with the Machete and Musket with Grenade special.
NERD ACTIVATE. The speed of the machete counters the slow speed of the musket and lob time of the grenade, while the power and range of the musket allows for strong attacks and long range attack. The grenades not only do HUGE amounts of splash damage but with the plus two tonics I get five per level. So with the machete being a fast medium range weapon that can be thrown and boosted to do bleeding damage, the musket a long range power house with the speed boost, and grenades for emergencies. I managed to get around most levels relatively unscathed with gods active.
NERD off... well that was fun

I always used the machete and the bow. The machete was fast, and I had it upgraded to do lots of crits. The bow was just awesome because of the overall power as well as the pierce. Made birds a ***** to fight, though.

Oh, and I always used Summon Squirt as my power.
