So, Rockstar Game's latest is coming out soon, and it's called L.A. Noire. But I can't answer this question for myself. Why should I care? With Rockstar, you expect a game in which your character has good intentions and goes about their tasks in either the best or worst possible way depending on the player. Wouldn't making the player a clean cop take away half the story? I understand the increase in focus on one side, but GTA IV(Which I legitamatly think is a bad game) and Red Dead Redemption (Which was OK) were all about freedom, side stories and distractions. Where would that factor into a cop game?

Pretty sure they're allowed to try different things.

Anyway as far as I can tell the "selling points" are a "gripping" crime drama, and "revolutionary" motion capture and acting throughout.

Although I heard some rumour about it not being complete versions on any one system or something... I really have zero idea what that's about though I just remember someone made a thread on it a while back.

Well, maybe they're trying something, you know, different? I mean maybe a more focussed, propulsive, linear game would make for something really special. Also, the time, the setting, the appearance and some of the gameplay mechanics I've heard about are genuinely very exciting.

If the game isn't for you, it isn't for you. Don't buy it and move on.

Rockstar, as a developer, has developed a lot of sandbox games, but they also created Max Payne, which wasn't "all about freedom, side stories, and distractions."

A developer can create different sorts of games. This one is a different sort of game than GTA IV (which you didn't like) and Red Dead Redemption (which you only thought was okay). If you are interested in it, get it. If not, don't. If you are unsure, wait and read reviews.

Further, do you know that you must play a clean cop? For all I know, the game is in shades of gray rather than black and white--which would match the style of Film Noir and Pulp Crime novels that have inspired the game.

But in the end, I'm very excited for LA Noir. I like Film Noir. I like Pulp Crime. The game looks to have neat investigation and mystery...which means, it looks like there'll be really interesting storytelling. I'm interesting to see the mocap in action. I'm excited it looks like there'll be puzzles and things to figure out. Seems like a really fun game for a player like me. Might not be for you. Not all games can be all things for all people.

I've always been interested in mystery stories, so having an assload piled in to one game with Rockstar's top-notch voice acting and the new motion-capture system they have I'm looking forward to it.

I really don't get what the big deal is either. Personally I think all Rockstar Games are shite and i'm not trying to put people down for liking them, to each his own. But Rockstar games bore me to tears and their graphics look like vomit.

All that aside I can see why its a big deal to some. They think everything Rockstar makes is gold. I don't.

Rockstar didn't make L.A. Noire, Team Bondi did. Rockstar is just the publisher.

Also, if the information out there right now and the videos haven't convinced you to care for this game, you probably just won't. Especially if you thought Red Dead Redemption was just "OK".

What excites me most is the hunting for evidence, with the potential to miss items/be misled and then following this up with interrogations with the same potential for unnoticed failure. I like it when you can do badly in a game and it won't stop and make you play sections again.

That's like complaining that Left 4 Dead didn't have enough portals.

Expecting a game to be less than the last one made by a studio because it's not a carbon copy is a pretty limited frame of mind to be in. Let Rockstar explore and try new things. That's usually how the best games get made.

I'm sure there will be a certain level of moral ambiguity involved. The game is about solving cases; just how you choose to do that depends on morality. Do you play by the books and go through proper police procedure or do you bend the rules through things like bribery and intimidation?

They're really trying to capture the experience of being a detective in that era. It looks to me like a gritty cross between GTA and Professor Layton. On top of all that the facial scanning tech that they used looks incredible.

I'm cautiously curious as to how they pulled it off without the game being stupidly linear, because if it isn't, it could turn out to be incredible.

Think you'll find Remedy made Max Payne and Rockstar "Vancouver" helped (could be wrong about who was helping who though).

Uh I really like the way thier making the player decide as how to apporach interagtion and using facial expertions to show what the suspect is thinking/feeling etc instead of a flashing symbol to add to the imersion weather or not it will be a linear game because of this is yet to see iam holding my breath as to how the game is actually gonna be but sounds good.

I really hope that it will be possible to intentionally dispose of incriminating evidence or even plant false evidence of your own.

I'm going to be such a bastard if I get the choice to...

From what I can tell, the gameplay is split into three main areas:

- A GTA-style sandbox, which I presume will operate in much the same way; getting to locations, having car chases, gunfights, etc.

- Exploring a crime scene for evidence

- Interrogating a suspect

edit: Heh, I completely forgot I just posted. Sorry about that. >.<

Yeah, I have no idea. I literally don't know the first thing about the gameplay. I'll wait for a review or two after it's out... but in my head I'm thinking of it somewhere along the lines of Heavy Rain and Mafia 2... but I really couldn't say.

This game is a complete unknown. Calls for a Demo, and what game could be better for a demo? Solve a whole case while itroducing gameplay, forshadow the next case and boom.

^^^^^^^
Yes the idea in my head is heavy rain with actual controls.
