Devil May Cry 4.

After the the leap in quality from DMC2 to 3 I was expecting so much more from the fourth one.
I was having trouble really thinking of one until you mentioned this. DMC4 was easily the biggest letdown, ever. I even dropped an extra twenty on the special edition.

I've said it many times and I will say it again: Haze. I was expecting a great PS3 exclusive shooter that could compete with Halo. What I got was a game that was half finished and half assed. Turning Point: Fall of Liberty was very bad, but I didn't have as nearly as high expectations as I did for Haze. Worst use of $60 in my life. Someone should have been fired over that piece of crap. Damn you Haze!
They sort of did a the game failed so hard free radical had to disband

Duke Nukem Forever.

Seriously though, Assassin's Creed 2. I just don't see why everyone is going on about how good it is.

I read few the first few pages and I'm incredibly surprised nobody mentioned Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. The original Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory was an amazing games (and free!), possibly the best online fps I've ever played. Quake Wars had crap weapons, terrible lag, the vehicles were disappointing and the maps were awful.

Far Cry 2. I expected awesome free roam GTA styled FPS gameplay with the ability to blow up random buildings and shoot random animals for fun, and I get a driving simulator where you get shot at every time you pass an X shaped road.

Why does everyone always choose such current games in these threads, the OP said LIFE. For me the biggest disappointment immediately made me think of Breath of Fire 4. I grew up with and loved the Breath of Fire series, but I couldn't put more then a few hours into that piece of shit.
i didnt mind breath of fire 4 but reading this reminds me of my biggest let down
breath of fire dragon quarter

use your special power too much you get game over and have to restart WTF
enemies dont respawn and somehow i got to the point if i used my powers abit more it was game over
and the enemies were too hard
no respawning mobs so cant go back and level more

ended up giving up

I don't care that people have mentioned Borderlands before. i built it up in my head to be the most awsome game ever. (the perfect game for me) and then (when I saw it) my excitement got deflated like a balloon that someone slowly lets the air out of.

Borderlands. After spending so much time on the forums and listening to all the lies (didn't know they were lies at the time) the game was a serious letdown.
How was it a let down? Plus what lies?

My worst let down from a game?
Final.
Fantasy.
VII.

Prototype was a let-down for me. How a game which makes throwing Abrams tanks at monsters dull takes some doing. BTW I think in a few days "Bayonetta" may be entering this discussion.

But seriously, what game CAN live up to immense hype (that'd be a better thread)? I think this thread is a lesson in keeping your expectations low so you can't be disappointed.

Stars 2. With the negligible strain on processor power and memory, i expected tech to have some relevance beyond level 10.

Spore. Man I regret buying that at full price.

Amen. You know, after recently buying a bunch of good games super cheap on Steam's holiday sale, I think I'm just about done buying games at full price when they come out. Because shit like Spore happens.
