The boss key.

I don't think this topic will create too much discussion, but what the hell....

Did anyone know what a "boss" key was for in most early 90's PC games? I was like 9 years old at the time and never thought about it because all my gaming was done from home. Now that I secured a job within an office setting, I can totally see what the heck it was used for! Now with these "tough economic times TM" I can see why it does not exist anymore, get back to work!

By boss key, I take it you're meaning the button that you press during your game that brings up a thrilling looking word document or spreadsheet? I hear the do still occur in some games of the more indie or web-based variety.

It still wouldn't make me full secure enough to play a sly game while at work. One gets frowned upon enough for even talking about games....

Most of the games that I remember having a "boss key" showed the DOS prompt when you pushed the button.

I think that might be a little suspicious these days!

How to see a "boss" key in action:
1) Boot up Counter Strike: Source
2) Join a Server
3) Press F10 when your boss comes around.
