So, I'm pretty sure we all know the stereotype of the CoD community, it is a 12 year old that often talks shit but can't back it up, who needs his balls to drop.
But, over all my time playing CoD, I haven't run into many of these children, maybe like, a few a day, most of the time I run into adults or teenagers that aren't that annoying.
I'm wondering if my experience is the isolated indecent, or just that people love to hate on Call of Duty (especially this site.)

I agree with you, I think people tend to push that stereotype onto whichever shooter is most popular at the time and run with it.

Hell, most of the matches I go in on COD are full of people without mics!

On PS3, that was true during MW2, but I think more and more people are slowly getting mics.
On Xbox though (or what I have played at friend's houses,) everybody has mics, and it is a competition to see who can mute everybody first.
Also: I forgot to add in the OP, that everybody thinks CoD people only play CoD, and play it all the time. This isn't true, from what I've seen, as I'm playing L.A. Noire right now!

My brother is one of these. Well he is actually 14 but you get the picture.

He sits in front of the TV all day and night, swearing at it, complaining how "This game sucks" and "That's f***ing Bulls***" and "It's not fair".
It keeps me up and I have actually resorted to cutting power to the house, just to get some sleep.

That is why I hate the stereotype. And while I rarely encounter them online (partially due to the fact I don't play COD much if at all), I feel strongly about them.

The last time I heard someone screaming through their mic was because they got a Nuke. Don't find it common at all whether it's PS3 or XBox.

COD is quite often a victim of its own popularity. There's some nice people who play and there are some total wankers also.

It depends where you're from if you get in a game with someone from the UK the "COD" stereotype is much more common, I speak from experience. I haven't met anyone on cod that is nice as of yet, sometimes people start off nice, but when you open a can of woop ass they turn nasty.

They carry the unfortunate group of assholes that don't really take part very much in the community, but just hope around to the most popular game.

Halo used to carry the majority of those stereotypes before MW2 and it's the only thing that makes me give any type of respect to anyone who's stance on the whole TF2 going F2P is a horrible thing. With popularity comes a lot of gamers you really don't want ever playing the same game as you.

People tend to remember the douchebags over the people that are actually nice. That's how stereotypes are made.

I don't really encounter the 12 year olds too much, it's more the drunks and some non-American groups that seem to be the douches. Now if only the guys I play with didn't antagonize any European or Mexican that enters the damn lobby and I'd be golden. Or...silver.

It's always yankees who bring the stereotype out a millionfold. Here is a typical yank kid when I am talking to my friends.. *Ahem*

"Ohhhh my gaaaaaaaaaad, are you Britiiiiiiiiiiiiish!? Britiiiiiiiiiish!? British faggt!! Oh my gaaaaaaad, I fucking hate British people, hey, hey, we won Vietnam! We'd kick your ass! Oh my gadddddd, learn to talk ENGLISHHHHHHH"

*Gaaad - Americans never say 'God' for some reason, the OTT accent extends all normal words into something that sounds like nails on a chalkboard, this is also show in the words '******', 'British', Vietnam and more.

I'm from England... you know... the place where ENGLISH came from... that's why it is called *Ahem* ENGLISH!!! That quote I posted above was an actual 10 year old yankee kid, in a lobby full of his 10 year old yankee friends. Remember who trains your spec ops? Who has one of the best trained regular infantry on the planet? Who can speak proper English? I don't exactly need to carry this on now.

EDIT: I am agreeing with you, not disagreeing. :)

The Call Of Duty community sucks, in team deathmatch most people go off on their marry way and dont team up like me and my friend, also they camp, kill spawn and all that unholy crap that happens in every Call Of Duty game, Call Of Duty 4 was the best game in the series, it has the best multiplayer and singleplayer, THIS is why I like the Battlfield community, they actually team up, do tactics and be nice to other people. Most people that I know if real life that play Call Of Duty are complete douches!

I always felt there were more adults acting like jerks, or should I call them man-child. I tend to ignore them either way, and usually just watch from a distance as they argue among themselves. Pretty funny when that happens in other games with a more close-knit community, like Section 8 (just an example). They take it to the forums, and the game, and the forums! Drama!!!!

Well said. And fantastic avatar.

And TC, just do what I did. Use a message board (like this one) and ask if there are other sane adults who want to play CoD. There are a surprising number of good people who want the same.

I now have a group of 10-15 people whom I play with regularly, and since we're always in a party, the few annoying children you might hear are never an issue.

I know right! The rare times that I am actually on mic, I get criticised for being British! It's hilarious. And yeah, it is usually by preteen Americans, though I've had a few who's voices have actually broken! I just chuckle and say things that they do not understand. I mean, really?

But it's not just Americans. I find sometimes you'll get some guy who sounds like the chavviest of chavs on there swearing and insulting everything. I think it's just general ignorance.

Nah. The "12 year old" stereotype is quite a bit too forced. There was one time when I met such a kid and fun times with lulz was had.[footnote]I acted like a mentor. A very annoying mentor. I got lots of laughs from the others on both teams.[/footnote]
