So the Iowa caucus (primaries, in which members of a given party are elected by those registered of the same party to be the primary candidate for office) is underway, results generally aren't finalized on the day of said caucus, but they do get a count. Barack Obama led the Democratic party with 36%, John Edwards, and Hillary Clinton got a respectable 30% roughly, with Edwards edging out Clinton. The remaining candidates had a negligible number of votes.

The repbulican primary was a bit more split, if you've been following, is not that surprising. Huckabee won in Iowa with 34% of the vote, followed by Romney 25%, Thompson 14%, McCain 13%, Paul 10%, Guliani a measely 4%.

Any thought on who you would want as president? What you think of the American political process, or the politicians themselves? Any thought at all (related to the election).

I pick Obama-- I don't know shit about his politics but he did appear on the Daily Show, which has earned him some Prez Points in my book.

I'm not American, but i'd prefer Obama to win it, Obama seems to have the intelligence and actual ideas in a race which seems more like a personality contest. Wouldn't hurt America to finally come to terms with a black guy in the White House either.

I wish Obama would win, but it isn't going to happen. This country is no way prepared to wrap their minds around a president with dark skin.

I hope I eat my words on election day though.

I really hope Obama wins, or maybe Edwards or Biden (Not going to happen with Biden though). Anyone else enters the White House and I'm moving out of country.

His youth and sort of novel approach to things is pretty compelling. I'm not really in his camp though, I think, faced with the breadth and depth of issues, he may fall short. I had wanted Bill Richardson, though he's such a long shot I don't think it's possible.

I wouldn't hate it, and I think he's run a respectable campaign.

I support Ron Paul's non-interventionist politics and libertarian ideals but he's such a long shot that the only practical alternative would be Huckabee. Pretty much as long as it's not Guiliani or Hillary I won't really care. I am kinda shocked that she lost to Edwards in Iowa. I mean come on, how on Earth do you do that!

I'm a Paulite as well. And yeah, he's a long shot... but that doesn't mean my vote won't count for something. I think its important to care, at least a little bit, or else each election will just be a decision between the lesser of two evils.

Also, if you have any interest at all in politics or the election, you should definitely check out this site: http://www.glassbooth.org [http://glassbooth.org/]

You'd be surprised who really represents what positions you think are important. Post your results too... I'm curious =)

I got Kucinich with 85%

98% Kucinich, but that doesn't surprise me. I'm pulling for Obama in the generals, though.

Kang/Kodos '08; abortion for some, free flags for all!

Though to be serious for a moment, it makes this Canadian feel a bit better (read: slightly less nervous) that nice guys like Obama can make headway in US politics.
