The Commonwealth and our Queen

So, I'm guessing that the majority of the people here share the same Queen (unless we're outnumbered by the Americans :p) The queen of course, being the real head of state for the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, and Jamaica etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commonwealth_realm

So I was wondering how you folks feel about our relations between the Commonwealth Nations. For example,(only an example, not the entire discussion I'm trying to start here) if one of the nations in the Commonwealth was invaded, do you think that the other nations would do something to help them?(Or maybe have the Queen force them to do so?)

Also, for a funner scenario, what if one of the countries experienced a ZOMBIE OUTBREAK!

Anyhow, how about sharing your thoughts on the Commonwealth and the Queen?
(maybe pretending we had a monarch who actually did something)

i think that in the advent of an invasion of a Commonwealth country some like Australia Canada and England probably would join, but some of the more "leech" nations might conveniently turn away or clam that they don?t have the resources.

in a zombie out brake I am saying we all go hold up England and as a last stand we defend the palace.

And i my self have a family loyalty to the queen, so no matter what she dose or doesn?t do, my loyalty will still be strong.

we americans would, in the event of a zombie out break, would wait to see if you guys could handle it, then when you cant. we would come in to save the day. as evidenced in ww2

by the way zombies are getting old.

So is the belief that the U.S saved the day.

But yeah, I second the belief that it is just not the same since Freddie Mercury died. Damn AIDS...

...all of a sudden I'm imagining a zombie invasion at the Parlament, and Elizabeth II kicking open the front doors, wearing a sun bonnet and jacking a SPAS-12.

"We'll not have this atrocity in OUR Commonwealth!" *BOOM*

Well, it depends entirely on the overall situation and who is doing the invading and why. England and Australia are decent and would probably backup allies in trouble. I would have formerly put Canada in that catagory, but I feel they have become a lot more self interested in recent years. New Zealand is interested in purely what is good for New Zealand. I don't think many of the others would be a factor to any situation on that level.

Strictly speaking though "the Realm" does not really act as an overall entity for the most part, and while it exists, I don't think it could ever be rallied under that banner the way things are now.

You also have to consider existing treaties and committments outside of that archaic establishment. For example if say the EU decided to invade Jamaica (though why they would want to do this is beyond me) it's doubtful that England would come to their aid and break away from the EU for the sake of Jamaica.

As far as England treating members of "the realm" with equality and respect, umm, well. Let's just say not everyone would agree with that, and while "allied" there is a reason why certain groups like the US, Australia, and Canada didn't really re-join the nation officially, though admittedly we get along pretty well for the most part since we're arguably the same culture (far, far, more alike than differant, though people like to focus on the differances for one reason or another).

For example, Jamaica is pretty impoverished when you get down to it, and if they are considered under this designation (I have no idea, I'm taking the OP at it's word), one would wonder what their attitude is towards the much richer nations that could be helping them out.

In general I've read some stuff about how like 80-90% of both Haiti and Jamaica are on lists for American citizenship, and we fill our quota of immigrants from there almost instantly every year since people are literally dying to get out. If we ever lifted our immigration controls we'd pretty much see those nations become deserted as everyone would make a massive rush for the US (which we can't really support despite what many might think).

I think the whole idea of "the realm" is like a less impressive version of how the US claims Samoa and Puerto Rico (and as I snidely point out at times due to a lot of their recent attitudes, Canada is arguably part of our hegemony even if it's not official.. )

Oh, pretty much having Canadians make snide anti-American comments every time the door is even remotely opened. In general Americans don't go around bashing Canada for the sake of bashing Canada, but Canadians do it to America. I also very much understand the idea of teasing.

It's gotten to the point where I've pretty much had to turn off zone chats and such in WoW.

In general I've just gotten so sick of Anti-American sentiment that I figured someone needs to stick up for us with equal fervor and unthinkingly bash some of these other countries in return. I try and do it in such a way that it doesn't derail otherwise serious (if sometimes exagerrated) discussions.

Americans make anti-Canadian remarks ALL THE TIME. You see it everywhere. And your saying that it's going on WoW? I am deeply disturbed. However, I can assure you that we did not strike first. Both countries have a lot of people, and the comment of one sticks in their heads and they assume that all of teh otehr made it. But are you really saying that there is a lot of anti-American sentiment from Canadians on WoW? I have never seen it. And maybe you're forgetting the anti-Canadian sentiment, or have somehow never heard it. You're probably on a server with a lot of Canadians, all of whom have probably encountered anti-Canadian sentiment, and retaliated. South Park, that Daily Show episode about Canada having the Queen as Head of State, there is most certainly anti-Canadian sentiment in the United States. Have you really never heard any of it?

Their hasn't been any American bashing since the State's election. At least none that i've noticed, outside of dipshits at hockey games, but even then they were more drown out by cheers.

Have you ever taken a gander at you own media? You don't have to look to ahrd to find that most media outlets make fun of all countries and people that Aren't american. Difference between you (specificly you) and the rest of us is we understand what a joke is and aren't so bloody insecure that we have to rant in topics that have NOTHING to do with anti-americanism about how evil and hateful Canadians are. Honestly grow up or shut up.
