Well, like the black plauge (and the fuzz) I've been trying to avoid the trailers and any attention for the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still. Two things that first killed it for me without even looking at the trailers:
1) They remade The Day The Earth Stood Still!?! No! Just, no!
2) Reeves has a role in the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still!?! No! Just, no!
I mean, this is savage butchery in its most brutal form. I enjoyed watching the black and white movie of yesteryear, complete with its bad SPX and little message. "Don't fight each other, otherwise you might kill yourselves." Neat, easy, done a million times, but it worked.
Now, in 2008-9, they seemed to have forgoten all that. As I watched the CGI wank off contest infront of my eyes, I felt like stabbing everyone how participated in the creative work of the remake and throwing them to the sharks. A bit harsh? God no!
The trailer all I saw was action, explosions, more action, CGI, building exploding, Reeves (damn him!), more fighting and action and so on. What's the moral of the remake then? "Don't fight each other... or we'll come down and rip you a new one!"
Even the robot, knowing he does look cool, seemed to blast a whole bunch of soldiers with his doom beam, something he only did in the first to some weaponry. That gave it a sort of, "Our weapons are far more advanced then yours, but we still wish you no harm," which now has been turned on its head.
So, am I the only one here that has seen the original? Am I clinging to it too much or does the new one have some merit for plain ol' dumb fun?
.
You know, we could still do the thing I said with the knives and the sharks... no? Fine.
