Allow me to elaborate

Last year I did a run-through of the James Bond films starting with Dr No. At one point in the film Dr No drugs Bond with a cup of coffee that knocks Bond out cold.

However Dr No doesn't do anything to Bond and in the next scene Bond and Honey are both awake and the scene is never brought up again.

It was a strange case of 'what's the point?' but I started noticing scenes like this pop up, not just in Bond films but a lot of other films as well. Most recently I watched Armageddon and had to question that 20 minute sequence in which the government try to blow up the nukes even though NASA already said that would do nothing.

So my question to you Escapists, what obviously unnecessary scenes in films stand out for you and make you question what the point of it all was?

Also bonus points for whoever can come up with a snappier title for these scenes. I just call them the Dr No Coffee Scenes because of how I first noticed these scenes.

Ah, that old scene... I watched that movie over a decade ago, but for some reason I still remember it.

Also, what you're talking about is basically a big-lipped alligator moment without the compulsory weirdness.

I guess it's the scene where the anti-smoking group put a huge bunch of nicotine patches on the main character in "Thank You For Smoking." I'm pretty sure you could take a bathroom break during that scene and you'd miss nothing.

It made more sense in the book, where Dr No wanted to put bond through an obstacle course that would test the very limits of human endurance and the human tolerance for pain before it finally killed him.
