I suspect it'll be a very hard piece to learn (particularly because the middle section is very quick) so it might be a few months until I can make a recording of it (by that stage hopefully my piano will have been tuned again, yay!) but it's an amazing song, even more so when you know that curious fact about it.
I did notice that middle section was very fast and complicated. As amazing as that piece is, I think I'll stick to trying to teach myself Mad World and Shopping on the piano for now.

I can't actually remember when my family last had our piano retuned...

This is a grindcore/death metal parody, thougn it turned out a lot better than I'd expected.
More of a sludgy metal tone this time, showcasing my incredibly amateurish guitar playing. The only instrument I can play properly is drums, and seeing as both of these were done at Furburt's house and he only has a drum machine, any artistic flourish of mine is mostly blunted.

Really hard song to sing and play at the same time.

Here's another original! Kind of experimenting with that one, it has really weird time.

hahaha, When I was listening to first video I didn't keep reading on with your post, and I was thinking "Hey, is that FURBURT on the left???" cause I sort of recognized him (Well, I did but I was not 100% positive) - anyways; I read on with your post and found out it WAS Furburt; lol'd to myself for a bit and then decided to share. :p

OT: I will be posting a video of my Vocal talent's soon.

Y'know it won't get reviewed unless it's YouTube or MySpace, Right?

EDIT: Ooops, nevermind; I'm thinking of a different topic that has that rule.

I liked this, although you might be better to take it down a key or two and play it in a way your voice can handle.

All the young dudes by Mott the Hoople.

I used my zoom h4n to record it, and premiere elements 8 to match it with the video. It was the first time i used both so i know it's a shitty first effort. I love the song though.

Hello again people of the Jam session! I have just finished learning and recording Stargate Atlantis (modified) on the piano!

Please, click the video box here and be taken to youtube itself and read the description. I have left a request, and marked this video as a "tribute" to the person that originally composed this edit.

Hope you enjoy, and thanks for listening =D

Here's our band at the Arts Festival. It was at a competition there, so we only got to perform one song. We didn't make it to the next round, but we had fun performing though. There's a lot of sound issues. We had a sound guy, but I don't think he did a very good job. He micced up the bass drum, and through out the video, that's the loudest thing you can hear, which made it kind of weird through out the song. I'd say it's still a good performance though, just not our best(granted, we've only done two performances).

Okay, I've posted this in The Musician League [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/chat/The-Musician-League] already, but I feel like I need some more feedback. Hopefully this may gather some.

As some of you may know, I'm am an AS Music Technology student. Well, about one and a half weeks ago my coursework was sent off after having worked on it for about 60 hours and we had the exam over the past week, but I would like some constructive criticism nonetheless from you guys, if it is at all possible. I'll post each of the tracks and explain a bit of the briefing as well so you have an idea of how to rate it.

Ironically, there's no performance.

Anyway, the specification here is that we are given a song (typically eighties synth) and using synthesizers and samples we have to re-create the song as close to the original as possible whilst using no samples from the original track. The song we were given in this case was Shopping by Pet Shop Boys and marks are given for how similar it is to the original song by various cateogories (notes, dynamics, pan, timbres etc.). It was surprisingly hard to re-create due to some of the timbres, namely the sampled voices, sound effects (there were soooo many complaints about the whip sound) and the use of a vocoder but I think it was a good challenge nonetheless.

This one's the most vague specification. You need to do a 3-5 minute recording (one song I had to play the drums for was only 2:15, so we had to do a short improvisation at the end to make it long enough) using 8-12 tracks (though a lot of people used 15+ tracks), and the marks are awarded for it sounding good (balanced dynamics, no distortion or background noise or fizzing or anything else that doesn't belong on a professional studio recording). That's it.

The rest of the limits are only what song you can choose, as restrained by your teachers. My teachers wouldn't allow anything overly complicated as no-one can be bothered to learn anything too complex (so no Tool, or Dream Theatre, or Rush) and you can't polish a turd, so if you get a bad performance from doing a hard song, you're screwed.

In that sense, Macy's Day Parade by Green Day managed to fit perfectly, and my teacher actually commented on it as being the perfect song for this recording, due to its wide variety of instruments (though I couldn't get any strings in like the original has ;_;) and its simplicity and repetitiveness (when we did the original drums, we listened to just the drums playing the same beat for three minutes to check for errors whilst taking the piss out of Tré Cool; we also did the same thing for the electric guitar part, head banging away whilst air guitaring to our recording of it).

This one we have a choice in what we do. We get two songs and two genres of music, and we have to pick one of those songs to do in one of those styles using synthesizers and samples. The two songs we had this year were Mr Tambourine Man by Bob Dylan and Lay All Your Love On Me by Abba, and the two styles we had to choose between were Ambient or Latin Pop. Thus, I went for a Latin Pop version of Mr Tambourine Man.

We get marks in this piece for variation from the original version (timbres, melody, harmony, structure etc.) and for how much we stick to the chosen genre (so for Latin Pop we're looking at percussion and brass, synthesizers and effects, guitars, Latin rhythms etc.).

This was the song my arrangement was based around the most.

Constructive criticism would be well apppreciated.

Just wanted to post here because it's an idea I've recently had, after being asked yesterday by a breakdancing group at university to film some of their routines. I don't play any instruments (though I am interested in learning drums and possibly guitar, I can borrow my brother's guitar when I'm home from university). And don't try asking me to sing because I have a terrible voice.

However, I know from this and BonsaiK's demo submission thread that there are some exceptionally talented musicians on this site. So basically, I'd like to offer my services to people (for free before anyone asks) as a filmmaker to produce and direct music videos, if anyone's interested. I'm based in Leeds, northern England, so anyone in the north of the UK will be able to find me easily enough, though I'm up for doing stuff for people elsewhere in the world provided that doesn't include the band's complete participation in filming, or I can edit stuff that you've filmed if you want, or produce, or whatever needs doing.

I make this offer pretty much because directing a music video is something I've wanted to do for quite some time now. I have a knack for being able to create a story out of hearing a song, if I know the song's meaning, and I enjoy making films, so why not combine it with a way to help genuinely talented people who want something more than just a song to show off? If anyone is interested then just PM me, or answer me in this thread, and I'll see what I can do :D.

Hey there, I'm Jim Grim, (Youtube username Colonel Horaldo) and I didn't notice this thread until just now. I thought I'd go ahead and just webcam record something off the fly and just test the water, y'know?
Anyhoo basically my idea here was just to keep jamming through my sleepyness, laziness and general musical incompetence until I fucked up so bad I had to stop. I lasted a full 2 minutes!
I call it 'Cheesy Guitar Nonsense.'
I sure hope there isn't any kind of high standard here, because I get the feeling I've just lowered it a touch.

Ok, maybe I can attempt to revive this thread? Even though the posts have been few and far in between now, I'm going to post another video on here anyway. So, I may have posted these songs before, but not like this.

Oh, we also came up with a band name. Not in this video though, we were still kicking around ideas. Anyways, if I post back on here again, you might see videos from a band called "Mostly Harmless". Yea, I think it's a pretty cool name too! Hope you guys enjoy!
